Garmin talk

This might be a crazy question but exactly what is MapSource and what does it do? When I bought my GPS the 2008 US Map was already on my Nuvi 780. I did not have to download anything. I know recently found out I can get the 2009 US Map for free so I'm working with Garmin customer support to get my free download since I bought my gps recently.

I recently downloaded mapsource from Garmin. I modified a route the program initially mapped and then sent the map to my Novi 260. I didn't find the map in the unit. Presently I do not have a memory card in the unit, not sure if that would be a download requirement. (Any hint on what to look for or is this a feature of higher Garmin models?)

So I've downloaded tons of things from this website and I'm pretty sure that it probably came from here, but I'm not positive. Sometimes randomly my Garmin Nuvi 660 starts beeping every couple seconds and displace a speed alert of 3mph. I haven't set any speed alerts on it and I'm not sure where it came from. One example of where it happens is Route 37 in Toms River, NJ. Any ideas? Thanks

I know after the three months trial is over, you have to pay like a monthly or yearly subscription fee but can you just get a one time deal subscription? Also do you guy use the features and find it helpful?

Hi, still getting to know my Nuvi 760.

On my new Zumo 550, when I create 300 mile, 30 waypoint routes in MapSource, after they are imported, there are 3-5 Waypoints per route missing when reviewed in edit>add/review points. They are converted into shaping points, without a flag in the map. If I recalculate, for example to add/remove a waypoint, these shaping points are lost. My SP2720 loads these routes flawlessly.

Does anyone know if there is a POI file for speed cameras around the US. I know there is a big Red Light Camera POI that is being updated regularly but is there a Speed Camera POI file?

I am wondering if my garmin will be of any use on the water? Anyone tried it? Bill

I am trying to find out if I have installed poi files correctly on the nuvi 200.

Hi, I am new to the forum and I would appreciat your help. I try to install the Costco POI to Mapsource and to my Nuvi 680, but they do not show on Mapsource and on the Nuvi it does not show on the map but only on Custom POI. What do I have to do in order to have it no the map? Thank you very much.

I have a Nuvi 780 and I noticed there is an option on under settings to change the Maps detail from Normal or More Detail. What is the big difference if I were to put it on Most, More, Normal, Less, or Least Map Detail. What do others use and what do you think is better?

Just got my Nuvi 750. Another question I have is this.
I downloaded the Walmart POI file. If I load that POI file into my Nuvi, using POI Loader, will each walmart store show up in my "favorites"?

IF after loading all those up...change my mind and lets say I only want the Texas Walmarts....what then? Is there an option or way on the unit to delete in mutiples rather than one at a time?

Just got my new (awsome) Nuvi 750...so far so good. I also have an older eMap that I used previously. The one thing that I don't see on the Nuvi in comparison to eMap...are POI's on the screen.

I would like to make a POI file for military bases in Calf and then one for the USA. But I have no clue on how to do this. If someone could, I would be happy to send you the info so that you could make a POI file on this. I would thank you

Just updated to Map Navigator NT 2009 and after I've a done a hard reset, when I turn it on, a pop said cannot unlock map and I cannot see the map, although, when I plug it into my pc, the map is still there. What is going on?

Hey I'm going to sell my Nuvi 350 soon and I'm looking for a unit to replace it. My question is that I like extra features on the 700s series, however, since the unit itself doesn't have a flip-up antenna, should I go with the 600s series instead? The 350 Nuvi came with all the accessories like: case, usb charger ...etc. Will the 600s series and 700s series also include them?

I am looking for a mounting bracket for a friction mount. The bean bag one. Does anyone know where I can buy just the mounting arm that slides into it? I can not find it on a Google search.

Ok so long story short.. I recently got a Nuvi 200W and I haven't been on any long trips, but I have tested it via locations around my hometown. It will get some places correct, but other locations it will be off by as much as 1.5 miles in the WRONG direction. I am seriously thinking about returning it for the TomTom XL-S, but I haven't heard anything great about it either.

Has anyone noticed any advantage in using an external type antenna such as the one that plugs into the rear of the Nuvi (760)? I think they retail aroun $30.00.

Hey wonderful news, one of my buddy happen to have a Garmin nuvi 350 and I just borrow his and copy all the missing files into my nuvi 350 and now everything work again, except that I'm still stuck with the GPS SW Version 3.00 so now I'm selling it and already somebody want it for $240.00. Should I sell it or ask for a higher price.
