Garmin External Antenna

Has anyone noticed any advantage in using an external type antenna such as the one that plugs into the rear of the Nuvi (760)? I think they retail aroun $30.00.

Thanks

Garmin Expernal Antenna

I have a Garmin 276C mounted inside my windshield. I use a Garmin GA 26C magentic mount antenna. It has a very small cable that I have closed in the door seal for years.

The antenna improves reception and accuracy dramatically. It's most noticeable in highway valleys, along mountain roads where one side is a hill, and off-road.

Another advantage is that a passenger can hold the GPS in their hand, even in the back seat, and get great reception.

I wouldn't have a GPS in a car without a remote antenna.

If you don't get good reception..

In your vehicle then it's of use. There have been posts here of units being used on airplanes and they worked better with the external antenna. I have a Street Pilot 3 that doesn't sit on the dash of my car and therefore it doesn't get good reception without an external antenna. My newer c550 doesn't have that problem, it seems to work anywhere, in my house, on a bus and yes in my old tank, an 85 mbenz... So I would say you should try it out and if you don't get the reception you would like for your applications, then get one
