Garmin talk

Firstly, this may not be the correct forum for these questions, but here goes. I will try to explain completely what I am attempting to do, so I will apologize in advance for the long post.

I have downloaded several POI files, along with associated MP3 and bitmap files, and loaded them into my nuvi 260W using the POI Loader. Each MP2 and bitmap file had the same name as the associated csv files. However, I can't get the nuvi to alert me as I approach a listed location, even though the POI alert box is checked in the system file. Can anyone help me with this?

I called Garmin support and after waiting quite a long time on hold I had the misfortune of getting someone that didn't know "jack" about it. No clue! This was of great disappointment. The same was true with support @ Msn Direct. Never got the promised return call from the "Supervisor" LOL.

the garmin nuvi 350 is on sale right now on amazon for 199! no taxes and free shipping to boot. just picked one up a week ago, happy hunting.

So I have a POI file that has all my race tracks I go to in it. Is there any way to make a category for it in my garmin so once i upload it, it's easy to get to?

I just bought the Nuvi 260 yesterday. I tried it out today and I think I have a problem. I updated the software thru the Garmin Website yesterday.

I am brand new to this site and need a little help.
I have a Dell laptop with Garmin nRoute software and a "dongle". I love the big screen.
Two questions:

1. The nRoute software has a button to Import Garmin GPS database files (*.GDB). If I download a POI file, how do I convert it to this format?

while driving today, i noticed that all my custom POI's and some of the default stock POI's icons where showing while driving in the 3-D map view. i also noticed the refresh rate was slower too.

i tried turning my gps on and off again to see if the icons will go away. they still show. i did a webupdate last night to see if there are any updates, there were none.

Somewhat confused with the discussions on not being able to use the added memory from a memory SD card for POIs...

What use is a memory card?

What is the difference between a 330 and a 330c?

I'm new at this so I might be asking some stupid questions.
I recently downloaded a Rest Area Combined POI file. The file looks good when I choose extras and Custom POI files. I did not load the BMP file to go with this.

I just got my 255W, replacing 370. So first time with non-folding attenna. I also got the flip case. The antenna bar is along the top of the unit. But I seem to keep the satellites even when unit is both in case and in my pants pocket. And as soon as I go indoors, it tells me that I lost the satellite. So are the signals able to penetrate leather and cloth?

Anyone thinking the garmin garage designer eats at Chiptole too much?

I don't know if other nuvi 350 are like this but I just got mine less than a week ago and there is a constant buzzing noise coming from the stereo of the unit that sounded like the buzzing noise when you turn on a compact fluorescent lamp but in my case the buzzing won’t stop. I know it’s not the stereo because if I plug in my earphone then the buzzing stop.

Excuse a newbie question. I have the Garmin c550 unit. Are there any POI's to help me search for directions to a person's residence by just typing in there name? Thanks in advance!

I just bought the Nuvi 260 and went to the garmin website to get the software updates. It was already loaded with the 2009 maps but for some reason want to update the software to version 4.10 (i think).

Anyway I have 2/3 questions.

Can I download/save all the info from GPS?

I am a nuvi 750 user. I bought a gomadic battery charger couple days ago for extending my 750 battery life during the long trip. But the thing is that the battery did not work at all. It only worked as the internal battery is alive. It won't charge the 750 internal battery. I used rechargedable battery. I set brightness 50%. The longest hour I used with battery box is 5 hours.

Is it possible to tell what roads are unpaved by looking at a nuvi display or Mapsource data?

I am plotting a bike route (manually) but want to avoid any roads that are unpaved.

Has anyone experience a fluctuating GPI file yet? I have a couple GPI files on my nuvi and when I go to Custom Poi's, sometimes the files are there, sometimes they are not! I have reloaded the files but they are not always the same ones that get affected. I have the GPI's on the unit not the SD Card so it is not like a card missing contact.

Since I got my nuvi760, the battery has never been even close to empty. It stays on the charger in my car, unless I leave the car. In which case it's turned off & in my purse.

So do I need to let the battery discharge & fully recharge periodically?
