Simulating A Trip

I just loaded some new POI's and would like to do a simulation. Can I do this on the gps or pc?
I want to find out if the wav files are working correctly.

Yep...

Yes, simply go into settings and put the GPS in simulation mode. Now you can enter a starting point and then pick a place to go to and get the route and simulate driving it. Keep in mind that is is real time, so an hour long car trip will take an hour to simulate.

Instead pick a starting spot near the POI you want to check and start from there.

alerts

Should the alerts work in simulation mode?

Should the BMP file appear along with playing
the WAV file while in simulation mode?

Yep, think so...

BMPs and WAV files both display/play on my nüvi 200 in simulation mode, so I would certainly think they would on the 260 as well.

Yes

Yes. Pick spot on the other side of a POI and set your location there. Then route yourself home (past the POI). Don't route TO the POI or your custom icon will be covered by the destination checkered flag.

OH. I thought the wav file would play AND the bmp would both occur at the same time/distance. I have the alert set to about 2 miles. Icon appeared at destination (not 2 miles before) and the WAV file did not play.........

The red bar at the top of the screen and the audio should alert at 2 miles; you should see the custom icon as you pass the POI. As I said, you don't want to set the POI as the destination.

Is this a file from this site or one you created? Are the coordinates in the roadway itself, or at worst, right off the edge of the roadway?

I think the coordinates are 50-100 ft off the roadway.....

That is too far. They may well not alert if more than 50 ft. Suggest you move them to the road itself. I'm guessing that means you created the file?

Thanks.......One other question about keyword 'Redlight'

I downloaded the RestArea's POI from this website and added a one liner of coordinates. I think that when I used google earth to extract the coordinates I used the coordinates of the building I work instead of the road that goes by it. Live and learn. Thanks for the
tip on this. I will update coordinates (using the road) and see if that fixes it.

One last question.
Does it make a difference if I name the csv file
RestAreasCombined.csv or RestAreasCombined_Redlight.csv?

I know the csv, bmp, wav files all have to have same name I just need clairification about the Redlght keyword.

Use of the word "redlight" within the filename has the effect of setting a proximity alert for a distance of 1/4 mile -- IF you don't set one manually. Since manual settings take priority over keywords,
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6764 ,
the use of "redlight" will make no difference if you set alerts manually. What were you hoping to achieve; there may be a different way.
