Hey, how's it going? Is there a free, alternative place to get maps for my nuvi 760 in lieu of buying updates through Garmin?

I am not getting quite frequently on my 765T a greying of the traffic icon and when I press the icon the message, "Poor reception for "X" minutes. When the icon returns to green or other color, the message is "Traffic reception upon to date." Has anyone else encountered this problem. Is it a glitch in the FM receptor cable, in the unit or with the traffic provider?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 760, when I take it out of the car and am walking around town,
It seems it can not always acquire satellites.
I switch it on and off a few times still no good.
This usually happens when I am in a new city, sightseeing.
There is no way I can tell it I am in a new location and try to search for satellites in the new location.

Is there any way to remove or stop outdated POIs that come with the GPS from showing up in the POI search?

This problem was discussed on a previous post that I can not locate.Maybe the op will see this answer I got after contacting Garmin.

The problem was when you take a custom poi that contains all the information including address and phone number and save as a favorite the complete information is not carried over.

I do not know what happened but I thought the SD card was for extra data. I removed the card to use on another device. I then discovered the Garmin 255W did not have a map. Garmin service walked me through downloading the gmapprom.unl file and unlock codes. This did nothing and they continued to send me the same instructions. I do not have a gmapprom.img file.

I have a friend that just purchased a 765T, he does not have a computer or use one for that matter.
We have updated his unit to the most recent maps & firmware & all is functioning correctly.

But I would like to give him routes that we intend to travel & using PIO loader seems rather strange loading GPX files, that turn into POI's under 'Custom POI's'

Long time Garmin user (handheld units) just getting into the auto sized ones. I've got a couple of questions regarding the 855 that hopefully someone can answer,

1> Can you scroll the map display with voice commands?

2> Is they a way to connect an external mic (this is a non-bluetooth unit) to the unit or cradle?

3> Is the latest v4.70 update stable?

I am considering purchase of a netbook for internet connectivity and for mapping programs when traveling.

I have used Mapsource and Mapquest to download a route I created to my Garmin Nuvi 760, but when I go to the routes button, I find no routes there. How do I download routes, or where do I find the routes I downloaded?

I am trying to upload a route from mapquest to my Garmin 255W. Mapquest says it is uploaded but how can I find it on my Garmin to use. I like to customize the route a bit and Mapquest works good this way. Garmin says look in your favourites and the address is there but I looked and it wasn't.

Please help off to Florida soon and want to use a different route.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the following with their unit.

I have the 255W, and when I choose a destination and hit go, I sometimes will take a different route rather than what "Karen" is suggesting. The GPS will begin recalculating as it should every time I drive from one street to another.

Does it make any difference to the battery if it is always used plugged in to the vehicle or should you use it stand alone sometimes?

I've searched the forums and only found this problem for other models. I'm starting a thread for those experiencing this issue.

I recently bought a Nuvi 285WT from Amazon (on sale for $100). The thing works well, except that it occasionally (actually, more often than not) reboots when turned on. I've updated the firmware and am still trying to observe.

I recently updated my 765T from map 2010.10 to 2010.40 and, since then, my unit has been rather stupid in routing. I called Garmin and basically they told ME that I didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about so I leave it to you to correct me where I'm wrong. First of all, the firmware was corrupted in version 3.90 so I backdated it to 3.60 and that solved some glitches.

I have an interesting problem I’d like to share with you guys.

I just purchased the “lifetime map update” via Amazon. I went to my Garmin account at the Garmin website and downloaded and installed CN North America NT 2010.40.

I'm a little slow since this update came out back on December 3, but since I haven't seen it mentioned here, you eTrex Legend HCx owners (and maybe other eTrex users) should check for updates with Webupdater. Without Webupdater, it can be downloaded from:

I recently updated my nuvi200w to 2010 maps and now my factory poi's are missing. Any ideas?. Thanks

Has anyone had a car accident or a close miss while playing around with their GPS on the road?

Happened to me a while back while I was trying to select a different voice for the GPS...I looked up and almost rammed into stalled traffic...only good brakes saved me.
