Out with the Old and In with the New

Can anyone tell me how to get the old POI's out so that I can update the file? tks

POI Loader

An option in the POI loader is to remove all POI's. Restart it to load the new ones.

Maybe I should have said I

Maybe I should have said I need to get them out of my Garmin nuvi. So that I can put the new ones in?

Not sure what you mean

If you are talking about removing custom poi’s that you created using POI loader, you do not have to remove them in order to install new ones. They will be removed automatically when you run POI loader and select “Install new custom POI’s onto your device”. That will overwrite the Garmin\Poi\poi.gpi file with the new poi’s. (I assume you did not rename the poi.gpi file.)

If you are talking about removing the poi’s that come with your map, you cannot do that.

If you are talking about extracting your custom poi’s so you can add to them you will need other software to do that, and it would be a lot easier to just send the whole new batch with POI Loader.

easiest way

what evert is trying to tell you is let poi loader do the work for you . after you start poi loader and it finds you garmin . the second screen gives you the option to (second line ) remove all previously installed cutom pois from your device.clicking in the dot in front of the statement does the work for you .another good tool to look at is poi organizer .

POI Loader does it for you

I use POI Loader to update my custom POIs as well as removing old ones I no longer use.

I have a folder on my computer where I keep all my POI's. Those same POI's are updated as I go. If one of the POI's is no longer valid (let's say they were for Circuit City but CC went out of business), then I will just delete that POI from my computer.

Now when I update my Garmin, I tell the POI Loader program to use the folder on my computer. The POI Loader will automatically delete ALL custom POI's from my Garmin and then place the POI's from my computer onto my Garmin. As you can see, my POI's are now updated and old ones like the CC are deleted from my Garmin.

Same way I do it.

USB connection

I connect my Nuvi to my computer, then go to explorer and click on the Garmin drive. I then open Garmin and it has a poi file. I delete that then I reload them with POI loader.
I also delete them from my sd card before I load them.
It works the same wan with POI loader but sometimes, for some reason, they do not delete from the sd card when using POI Loader, so I have double POIs in my Estra data.
