The new Nuvi 1690 looks good but why no "nulink" services north of the border?

total garmin newbie here- first post.

Thanks for making such a wonder resource of information avail! I can only hope to garner enought skill to contribute...but for now, just learning what i can do...or can't.....

I've been using the Garmin Topo 24K National Parks series. But they only cover National Parks. Are there any routable TOPOs out there? Or how about State Forests?

Just came back from a trip to Zionsville,IN, then to Richmond IN. then home. My Garmin 250W worked flawless. every time,it really is hard to fault how well it has worked.

My Garmin audio output occasionally changes from internal speaker to FM transmitter when I am shuting down - am I doing something to make this happen or is this a bug in the unit?

I returned from a northern WI trip a couple weeks ago where I had a problem with my icon positioning. It seemed to travel just off the mapped highway for periods of time then the unit would say " satellite signal lost" or something similar and then would sort of reset itself. I have not seen this since returning home. Could this be unit or cable/ antenna positioning?

What does the redlight display look like on the nuvi 255W
I hear the alert and I see the BMP but I do not see anything else like flashing or change in display color.

I've got a Garmin 205W and I'm looking for a good Sun Shade /Visor for it. The sun is a problem when I use my GPS on my motorcycle. Does anyone make a sun shade and if yes, what is the best one?

I have just upgraded from my faithful SP C530. So
far so good

One thing I noticed, when not navigating on a route,
(i.e. Just using view map) the old SP would toggle
between what road you were on and the upcoming street.

It seems the Nuvi 255W does not seem to do this anymore,
it just shows currently what street you are on.

Has anyone noticed this on other newer Nuvi Models ?

i have a nuvi 255w capable of receiving msn traffic & weather, if i purchase the receiver that plugs in to unit ,i was wondering if msn is good,and if there are any good web sites to purchase the receiver from.thanks for your help.

If I turn on the GPS simulator and simulate travelling a route to some destination is there a way to speed up the process?

is there a way to extract a whole category of poi's from mapsource to waypoints so i can make a custom poi file. it is an attractions category that i am trying to export

When leaving Norfolk,Va. airport POI ORF going to Kitty Hawk
The unit found the satellites four bars,accuracy 44ft.
Knew where it was and how far it was to Kitty Hawk
But it did not know where the car was on the road
It kept saying recalculation and to turn on streets that were not there.

Turned it off, ask directions and continued trip.

Ifse - Yes I followed the sequence you listed and got the message "no matches found".

thanks to all who responded. will continue "working" on it and will let you know if it ever works.

Just a heads-up to MSN Direct subscribers using receiver GDB 50. I noticed my MSN Direct hung up for a couple of days giving me no service even though the subscription status screen said 'subsciption active', battery indicator 'full', and it displayed 2 of 3 green signal level bars.

I updated my maps on my 765t a couple weeks ago. It came with Mapsource. Mapsource showed great streetlevel detail on my desktop computer. I took the same 2.2 gig executable and ran it on my laptop. I ran Mapsource on the laptop, but on it there is no street level detail on the laptop. I can create maps from city to city, but not from any particular street in that city. HELP!

Hello...I got this GPS about two weeks ago and loaded the latest mapping software (City Navigator North America NT 2010.20) and it tends to direct me across city streets instead of via the quickest route, over the freeway. My other Garmin, a four year old Quest with City Select North America V6 does not do this. I have it set for "fastest" in the settings menu.

In addition to MIX-IT2, what other options are out there to hook up my radar detector and Zumo for the Inputs and my ear buds for the output? I've been using MIX-IT2 for about a year. The connecctions seem to come loose and static comes and goes whenever I ride off-road or on bumpy surfaces.

I have a NUVI 350 and have installed custom POI's from this site. When I have used the menu items for Food, and recreation on the NUVI, I get no matches found.

Does the use of custom POI's replace the Garmin installed ones?

Clarification would be appreciated.

Lately, I have been having trouble acquiring full satellite signal on my Garmin Nuvi 255 and my wife's Nuvi 255W. This is on a clear day, out in a field, anywhere. Sometimes, whilst driving, my car icon "drifts" off the road and if in an urban area, onto another road. This is getting quite annoying, especially when the "other" street is a one-way. I have the latest firmware.
