Garmin 265wt Lost direction Norfolk Va

When leaving Norfolk,Va. airport POI ORF going to Kitty Hawk
The unit found the satellites four bars,accuracy 44ft.
Knew where it was and how far it was to Kitty Hawk
But it did not know where the car was on the road
It kept saying recalculation and to turn on streets that were not there.
Turned it off, ask directions and continued trip.
After turning it on and off several times with the same results.
Did a hard boot and selected Kitty Hawk and it worked
Has continued to work for a week now.
Anyone have any idea what happened or how to prevent it happening again
Screwy Directions
I've had some goofy things happen, similar to that, with my 350. It usually happens when I ignore the Nuvi's directions and make a couple of turns before Nuvi can recalculate. Also, when I get on a new stretch of road that is not on the Nuvi's map. She goes crazy with goofy directions then.
It wouldn't be the first device to benefit from a reboot.

Do you let the unit acquire satellites before moving? I find that always works best. I turn my unit on as I'm walking out my front door and about the time I put it on the dash and connect the power cord it has acquired the sats.
If you start driving before it finds the sats, it has to do a complete recalculation and that takes time.

Make sure you have the latest update using webupdater. The 265 is usually pretty fast picking up the satellites.You may try setting the unit outside and let it set to your present location. If this has just started to happen you may want to give Garmin a call since you already done the re-set

after a hard reset
If possible let the unit sit outdoors in the open for approximately 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

I had the same issue. Reset didn't work. Nothing. Before I sent it back for repair I decided to run webupdater again. Make sure you have the latest version. I have been error free for over a month now. Give it a try.

Today was the first time
Today was the first time using my 265WT, and a pretty disappointing experience. Our destination was 4 hours away, and we know the way well but like to use the GPS anyway. It's a good thing we do know the route as this unit gave wrong directions repeatedly, sometimes even trying re-routes to head west when our destination was due EAST!
I did the updater prior to today but have not taken the time to do a hard reset yet today. Hope this works! The reviews I've read for the 265WT seemed to be great, but if the hard reset doesn't work, looks like I'll be returning the unit.
Similar Issue
I had a similar issue and the update I did a few weeks ago seems to have taken care of it.
As for the constant rerouting I have noticed my 265T ignores roads that are a more direct route. It seems that it ignores secondary roads as much as it can. It does not seem to matter if I have it set for "Fastest time" or "Shortest Distance". With that the route I take home on rare occassions the Garmin will take the road I want, not sure why but this is rare.
