Installed POI's and custom POI's

I have a NUVI 350 and have installed custom POI's from this site. When I have used the menu items for Food, and recreation on the NUVI, I get no matches found.

Does the use of custom POI's replace the Garmin installed ones?

Clarification would be appreciated.

John

On the 350

On the 350 you will find custom POI's in Where To - My Locations - Custom POIs. Your built in POI's are listed in Where To and then select the area you want (food, fuel, etc.)

The custom POIs installed using POIloader would not overwrite or replace the built in ones. Worst case is that you'd have 2 POIs for the same location. One for the preinstalled and one for the custom one you uploaded.

Installed poi's and custom poi's

Thank you for your reply but I am using the sequence you mentioned and I get "no matches found" for all the settings - recreation, housing etc. I am using NYC as the location so the reply I get makes no sense.
Does anyone know the filename of the installed POI's?
I may have inadvertly deleted it.

thanks
John

Custom POIs

Custom POIs do not replace or overwrite installed POIs.

Installed POIs are "embedded" into the maps. I don't believe that they are in a separate file that you can edit or delete.

Have you followed these steps...

on page 11: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/Nuvi350_OwnersManual.pdf

Where to -> Near -> select or enter location

installed poi's and custom poi's

Ifse - I followed the command sequence that you gave.
I have tried to use the pre loaded poi's while in simulation mode. would that make a difference?

If you want to search for installed pois that came with the unit.Select where to,points of interest. You will now see the icon categories you can select from. You will also see spell name icon that you can use to search but it will only locate if the pre-installed poi is in the data base. Also at bottom you can select near to search in a different city. That is the chioces you have for pre-installed pois.

Charlie. Nuvi 265 WT and Nuvi 2597 LMT. MapFactor Navigator - Offline Maps & GPS.

Custom vs. Factory

Yes! The factory installed POI are part of maps and are not altered in any way by the user unless you took steps to delete the maps from the nuvi.

The custom POI are stored in a different place on the nuvi. On most models, the Custom POI are found within Extras on the Where To/Go To Menu.

As an example: Mama's Pizza was a location in the factory POI under Restaurants. You also downloaded or created a POI file that also contained Mama's Pizza and then installed this file on the nuvi using POI Loader. If you search for Mama's Pizza looking in the POI area, you will find the factory installed location. If you search in Extras/Custom POI you will find the one you installed.

Does this help?

Simulation mode

Simulation mode is the right way to do this search, unless you are there. It's just a way to tell the GPS to pretend to be where it's not.

Just to be sure, have you tried these steps:
[Put GPS in simulation mode]
Where To
Near
A different city
New York
Select New York, NY
Select Food, for example
All food

Are you saying that it still comes up empty?
