Can you create different categories in your Favorites folder?

I assume the answer is no since I haven't found a menu button to do that. It seems to create custom folders for addresses, locations for which you entered lat/lon coordinates and such, but no custom folder names.

It'd be pretty nice if you could do that - have a folder for Camping, sights for a certain vacation, etc.

This is on a 255WT BTW.

Create your own POI file and

No, you can not create folders in "Favorites." Create your own POI file and place all the locations in a folder named "Camping." It won't be found under favorites, but you will be able to find it under "custom POIs" under the "Extras" button.

You can create categories for your favorites with the model you have. When you input a favorite touch it and you will see edit at bottom.Touch edit and you will see several selections.Scroll down to change category and assign one.You will also see new at bottom which allows you to input your own.

Thanks, Charles!

Kind of a stupid place to put the "New category" option - seems to make much more sense to just add an "Edit" option when you click on Favorites.

Oh well - thanks for the tip!

[ETA] Tim: I had thought about the custom POI file as well. More of a hassle, but would have accomplished the same thing. Thanks for the idea.

Also

Also the 1xxx series Nuvi's have this ability to make favorite categories.

Also: It looks like the way to delete a category is to have no more saved points left in it.

You can have categories, if you use Mapsource

to load your waypoints onto the Nuvi.
You setup the category in Mapsource, and when you upload the waypoints, all your defined categories will show up under your Favorites.
I have categories for work, family, friends, etc. They all show up under their own folder under Favorites.

A survey?

This looks like the newest thread & best topic subject to ask this question..

Am I correct that only the xx5 and 1xxx units will organize Favorites (not POIs under Extras) in Categories?

I know that on my 765 I can type a new name into the Category field when I edit Favorites (current.gpx) or Temp.gpx stored in the Gpx folder, and after disconnect from usb and normal gps reboot, my Categories appear (viewing in Favorites).

Without looking through ALL of the pages (I did some) of a search on the subject, I thought I'd ask for a 'poll' of those that have verified it on their model.

Thanks. That was one of the threads I had looked at and it appeared that way but there were only a couple of actual hands-on 'yes' replies.. yours on the 265 being one.

Thanx Juggernaut for the 775 info, as well.
