I'm thinking about buying a portable friction mount (part# 010-10908-00) for my Nuvi 265WT. But I already have a portable friction mount (part# 010-10306-00) from a broken street-pilot 2720 that I no longer use. The two look identical except the 10908 has a pedestal mounting bracket that connects between the sand bag and the Nuvi.

Looking for some insight into this issue.
I was helping a friend with their Nuvi 250, as they do not have a computer.
Used the Web Updater to check for newer firmware.
5.0 was available, so through the web updater installed the update.
Everything went smoothly.
Rebooted Nivi, flash screen shows Updating GPS Firmware.
Looked good.

Settings show that 5.0 firmware is operational.

After resting content with a GPS V for many years, I've purchased a nuvi 855 for routine car use, and an Etrex Vista HCx for travel and hiking use.

I enjoyed the 855 for a couple of hours yesterday, then attempted updates. The base map update would not start up in Google Chrome, so I switched to IE8. It appeared to download and install OK (so saith the progress prompts).

Why is it that the Garmin lock feature will still allow the unit to navigate through audible commands to the last programed location. This is a problem in my mind. Let's say the last place I had set the unit to navigate to was home and that is also my security location and someone steals my garmin follows the prompts to the location and then unlocks the unit...

This was strange this morning when I turned it on and got a reminder to register the Nuvi. All the settings that I changed were all back to factory. All my favorites and and Custom POI's were still installed. The rest of the day everything was normal, after resetting everything.

so recently, i was trying to see if my xt (in nokia) worked on a plane, but i kept having trouble getting it to lock satellites (i was sitting aisle seat). i kept turning off on, etc. and when i landed, about 30 mins of using the gps, i later found that i couldn't open xt. it would show the garmin splash screen, then kick me out. i tried uninstall, then reinstall, but no workie.

Another little program that could be useful. For those who remember the TTS_Speech_Doctor, this new program is called TTS Speech Doctor Pro. The "Pro" means this is a bit more advanced than the previous version.

It will allow you to modify speech problems for your GPS by YOURSELF. Yes! You can now add your own abbreviation equivalents.

Hi, Sorry for this really stupid question but I'm rally new to the gps world. Please could somebody pinpoint me in right direction for POI for the Uk and also POI in Thailand. The ones I have found are mostly in the USA. A'm I missing something obvious.

Garmin 255 3.5" for $99

Is there any way to load a iQue 3600 World-Wide Basemap, Ver. 3.01 on to an SD (2GB) card and use it in a Garmin 255W ?

And if so, why would you want to? ... I mean would it be worth the effort and can/will it be useful for any reason.

I am looking for opinions on the Garmin 1350T or 765T.

I am looking to acquire a new GPS and QVC has the 1350T on special today on easy pay for $219.00. I have been seriously considering the 765T but then the option for the 1350T came along.

It looks to have most of the same features, although it does mention in one review that the 1350T does not have the Junction feature.

Initially, I could not get a newly generated POI file to load to my Kenwood (Garmin GPS) DNX5140. It would attempt to read the newly burned disk and eventually return a "disk error." It took two calls to Kenwood to resolve the issue.

My Garmin 760 is almost 3 years old. Recently, I find if I turn it off, it won't always turn back on. Yesterday, it wouldn't turn on when on 12v, but the cable lights were on. I then tried it on UPS; no results. I left it plugged into the computer overnight, and when I booted the computer this morning, it came on. Looking for ideas as to how to proceed.

I know I am probably asking for alot,,,but,,,,,is there any way to take a POI file and see the individual locations on a map?? My wife wants all of the quilt shops on a particular route and short of looking up the telephone exchange codes....which is not a happy thought....I don't know how to see where they are located.

I just returned to Phoenix from my Phoenix-Las Vegas-Phoenix commute and saw the usual DPS Mobile Speed Vans on the 93 near Hoover Dam. This mobile camera unit was supported by a DPS marked unit that was actually stopping a Ford pick-up just before the Speed Camera van. I have never seen enforcement like that in all of my commutes.

I'm 'in the market' for a handheld unit for hiking, fishing, and camping. I was looking at the Garmin GPSMap 60Cx, but now I'm leaning towards the Garmin Oregon.

Does anyone know about these units and willing to offer their opinions?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265wt and am quite happy with it, so I'm leaning towards Garmin; but I'm also open to other manufactures.

I downloaded several POI's from this site exactly as instructed, onto a new folder on my desktop. When I transfer them to my nuvi 760 SD card only the last file transferred appears on my 'extras' list. Am I doing something wrong? Tx
