bad routing from my Garmin 7200...am I doing something wrong?

Hello...I got this GPS about two weeks ago and loaded the latest mapping software (City Navigator North America NT 2010.20) and it tends to direct me across city streets instead of via the quickest route, over the freeway. My other Garmin, a four year old Quest with City Select North America V6 does not do this. I have it set for "fastest" in the settings menu. Any suggestions on this....am I doing something wrong or is the mapping software really this poor? Thanks.

Bad Routing

I have mine set for truck and it never takes me across city streets.

Truck setting worked

Thanks, tried the truck setting this morning and it did route me on the freeway this time. Seems like the logic built into the software should do this regardless, though.

I also notcied on the MapSource software, if you click on edit, and then click on Preferences, and then click the Routing tab, you can set the road selection on a sliding button to "Prefer Minor Roads" on one end of the scale and "Prefer Highways" on the other end. It is pre-set in the middle.

I wonder if changing this would also change the logic and avoid routing you through city streets? Guess I could try it, but I don't really want to go through the hassle of re-loading the software on my GPS if it won't change anything.

The additional navigational options & settings you see in MapSource only affect routes used/created in MapSource while in the MapSource application. They are not transferred to the nuvi in any way.

Good to know

Thanks, you saved me an effort in futility!

Avoidances

Do you have any avoidances set?

There is an avoid highway setting in my 780.

No avoidances

None except for dirt roads...
