Motorcycle riders plan day rides over specific roads with multiple Waypoints(stops). I use a Garmin GPS. Other rider friends of mine want to use their Android (or iPhone) with Google Maps.

After moving to a new city and buying a new car to get around in, a close friend of mine found herself needing some sort of GPS navigation to guide her around her new hometown. So, she bought a used portable navigation device and hit the road.

I am considering buying a couple of used Nextel Motorola Titaniums. Since Nextels iDen network is shutting down later this year, the old units are cheap and will work fine as off-network walkie talkies on Direct Talk simplex. They will also work as portables GPS navigators with on board maps like Tom Tom for Android, Co-Pilot, etc.

Looks like the buyers really like the iPhone 5.

I find the mobile navigation utility that comes with my Droid's Google Maps app to be reliable, accurate, and very convenient. The fact that my mapping/direction search history and favorite places is all on one account that syncs between my desktop, my laptop and my Smartphone, makes it even more convenient.

It's pretty big, 1.8 GB, so maps are involved.

I'm experimenting with using an Android phone with NO cell service as a dedicated combination GPS and dashboard camera. Because it has no cell service tied to it I can't download maps via mobile data (and you can't count on WiFi on the highway).

This means that I need an Android GPS app that downloads the complete maps to the phone's SD card.

Today TomTom released a map update for their Android app.

The new map is v900, replacing the previous v895 map.

I'm quite satisfied with Navigon, and Apple's native iOS6 Maps App works fine for me too... Do I need Google? Not really...

While this might not be the most appropriate forum to help select a smartphone, I respect the members opinions here immensely. I am in the market for a rugged smartphone. I will use this rugged smartphone for GPS as well as other applications. I hope that Garmin StreetPilot For Android is available soon, but if not I will go for TomTom For Android.

Version 1.1 of the TomTom Android app was announced today.

Although there are a number of improvements and bug fixes, the change that will probably be most widely appreciated is that the TomTom Android app now officially supports devices with high resolution screens such as the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Let me start by saying I don't work for FreedomPop and I get nothing by posting this.

Has anyone heard of FreedomPop? They're new mobile internet service provider founded in 2011 and backed by Skype co-founder. FreedomPop uses ClearWire (WiMax) network. They're currently in Beta.

Here's what I've learned so far:

Hi, I just switch from the Iphone 5 to an android phone so I decided to get the garmin smartphone link app installed on my phone. I've used it for a few days but I don't see the benefit of the app. Am I missing anything and what are the FREE benefits for the app?

Does anyone else use the app and what FREE feature do you use?
