Old Nextels Motorola Titanium For Walkie Talkies And GPS

I am considering buying a couple of used Nextel Motorola Titaniums. Since Nextels iDen network is shutting down later this year, the old units are cheap and will work fine as off-network walkie talkies on Direct Talk simplex. They will also work as portables GPS navigators with on board maps like Tom Tom for Android, Co-Pilot, etc. Anyway, I am just wondering if there are any Android apps that would allow polling of GPS locations via Direct Talk? Since these won't have regular service or data it would be nice if they could poll the other unit for location, but I don't know if any Android apps would work that way. Does anybody here happen to know if that would be possible?
