Verizon Wireless exclusively launching Samsung DROID Prime in October

BGR has exclusively learned from a close source of ours that Verizon Wireless has passed on offering the Samsung GALAXY S II in favor of something even better. We reported last week that Verizon isn’t going to sell the GALAXY S II, and we have now been told why.

New CoPilot Live Premium And Standard Android Update – Brings Custom POIs

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alk.copilot.namark...

We’re pleased to announce an update for our Android customers using CoPilot Live Premium and CoPilot Live Standard apps.

In addition to updated street maps (Q2 2011), we’ve taken the opportunity to include a popular customer request: The ability to import custom POIs

HOWTO: Importing POI Factory POIs into Sygic GPS (All smartphones) (UPDATED)

After some time, I'm able to put up another HOWTO on how to POI-ify your smartphones grin

Sygic GPS is presently available for the US for approximately US$24 (Euros 19.99) and as of version 11.2 (now out for some time) it will have the capability of using POIs (in Garmin CSV format) after conversion with a free tool.

Google Buys Motorola Mobility for US$12.5 Billion

http://news.yahoo.com/google-buy-motorola-mobility-12-5-bill...

This will have a major (positive) in the future of the Android platform but also on the GPS front being given Google involvement with mapping and now they will have some real hardware platform to go with it.

how to get poi on a garminfone

need help have loaded them via poi loader but can not find them to access them?

Free Android App of the Day - September 2011

In order to make things easier to navigate,I'm going to start a new topic each month like Jon does for, keeping your windmill alive and the joke threads. Free links are short lived anyway and will make Navigation short and sweet.

Do you know of a great Android App that is free?
Why not post the link here.

Import POI-Factory camera CVS files for use with Google Navigator and others!

I don't know much about the light version, I have the pro. I also use it in the background not using it's maps. I use Google Navigator and get all the POI-Factory custom POI alerts from the Radardroid app.

I recommend this Android App!

Golf Frontier GPS

Golf Frontier GPS is free today at Amazon:

Not sure how good or bad the apps is. I am not a golfer or Android phone owner. I just thought someone might be interested.

Garmin confirms its acquisition of Navigon is complete

http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/26/garmin-confirms-its-acqui...

I hope this brings the best of Garmin to Navigon's smart phone apps. Navigon is, in my opinion, the best iOS app out there - and if this brings about the ability to use custom POIs on smartphones with the same easy you can on a Garmin device, I'll be pleased.

Store Google Map Tiles On Your Smartphone

Google has just released update 5.7 to Google Maps. One of the new features is the ability to download specific map tiles to your phone so you can navigate even if you lose cell coverage.

S-GPS vs aGPS

There's some info on S-GPS vs aGPS in this thread here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-news/54608-s-gps-vs-...

I really don't understand the jargon on if / how S-GPS is superior to aGPS.

Do you guys have any insight?

TomTom lowers guidance again as customers seek cheap, converged navigation solutions

http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/27/tomtom-lowers-guidance-again-a...

Looks like TomTom is really hurting from lack of sales due to consumer trending towards smartphones. Lowers guidance 2nd quarter in a row.

Even TomTom units at $40 aren't drawing much of an interest these days on deal sites.
