POI projects

Monster food .csv POI combining many, many restaurants from POI Factory. Just put them all into one file and cleaned it up by correcting spellings, adding names, deleting location by area lines that won't load correctly. I'll send it in if anyone's interested. Each restaurant is the complete list from here and several were "stitched" together if they were only listed state by state.

I downloaded and installed the file.
When clicking on it, the co-ordinates do not match where the stores really are. It does not even know the names of the streets based on the co-ordinates that are used.
I don't have Excel but re-did the file in "kml" format which is readable in POI Explorer.

You never know when inspiration is going to strike....

Tonight I was struck down by a documentary about hot dog shops, so I will be going over this documentary and geocoding all the hot dog shops mentioned in this show.

Sometimes there is nothing better then a hot dog to cure that craving.

Does anyone know where I can find POI's for the Czech Republic (Prague and other cities)?

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but has anyone thought of putting together a list of POIs of common traffic areas.

Create a sub-directory on computer hard drive. Put only the POI's you want to install in that directory. Make note of path.

POI's must be loaded to C330 unit using POI loader with C330 hooked up to computer via USB. Turn C330 on. Make sure program is pointed to correct target device. It's done very fast.

To use POI's when using the C330;

I'm new to POI's and this site. Like 2 days... :) But, I notice that all POI's are essentially static files. I think there would be a lot of value of having all coordinates/POI's in a database that could be geo spatially queried. For example, a mashup of POI's with google maps.

Here's the deal.
Is the "Rest Areas Combined.csv" file a combining of all the other state rest area files... (which I would suppose it is)?

So if a new rest area comes to be found... then which would be updated... the state file or the combined file?

Reason I ask is, which should one download?

Downloading all the states and the combined will use up space, be inefficient and such.

Any interest in a Historical Monuments POI? I was thinking about all those placards and small monuments along the road describing historical events that happened at those locations. Might be interesting for road trips.

I've been searching high and low for a BoJangles POI, but haven't found one. . .

It appears that my Garmin Nuvi 350 does have BoJangles locations in its DB, but my wife & I would like to know when one is near. We are heading down to Disney with the kids this weekend (From Maine to FL).

i cant seem to find any poi's for cici's. if someone can make it that would be awesome

Just found the site and love it. Have been a long time gps user with a laptop and Delorme software. Found a bunch of useful poi's and some I may not need, but was looking for some ATV type stuff. I did see some for Texas but was looking for more around the country. If anyone here rides u all know how nice it is to find new places. Looking more for trail heads rather than the trail it self.

How about all the Elk's lodges in the US

This would be a very popular POI file if someone could create it. I travel around the country in a Recreational Vehicle and often stay in places where the cell phone signal is weak or nonexistent. I also have an air card for Internet access that also gets its signal from cell phone towers. To deal with weak cell phone signals, I have a directional antenna.

I have several POIs already loaded, and have it set up the way I like it. I was wanting to add the "Dams.csv" file, but, it is just too big (2,272 kb). My Garmin c340 ran out of file space. This file is lots bigger than any of my other .csv files. I am interested in visiting dams that are worth looking at. Could someone who has the time (I dont) divide the dam file into regions?

... for US states, have consistency in identifying the state. For example there are POI files for Texas and TX. Could they be renamed consistenly with the state abbreviation (TX)? For international POI's use the country?

The post office custom POI is pretty good. It has a bunch of Post Offices not found in the built-in POIs. Who maintains this file? I would like to add the missing POs near me to the list. I would also encourage other to contribute.

just got my tomtomone and i'm trying to copy poi files to it. i've tried all i know to accomplish it but nothing. someone please help.

With the great work that was done by MrKenfl in setting the poi coordinates at the exit ramp for roadside rests (to facilitate alerts) is their anyone looking at doing the same thing for the truck stops? Most all truck stops are located very near an interstate exit. Having these POIs available with alerts along the freeway would be a great addition especially for the RVers.

Well, my wife and I just returned from our two week trip to Rome and the Tuscany region of Italy. In preparing for the trip I created POI files for Rome, Florence and a few other loacations. Used google earth and my Nuvi 370 to generate these POI's. I stress that I did NOT use any other source to generate this information.
