POI projects

Dear Fellow POI Factory Users and Website Creators:

First, thank you for creating this website. Access to free GPS data has changed my life. I will go into greater detail as to how below.

I am blind. Adapted GPS gives me two peaces of information I never had easy access to before. It tells me about points of interest and landmarks around me. It also tells me my position relative to them. Free data makes it much easier and less costly for me to get this information. Latitude and longitude information are not covered by copyright.

Just downloaded the new POI file listing all of the US FM stations from fred1. Great idea, should be very useful on long trips for those of us who don't have satalite radio.

Just wondering, where did you find all the gps data?

Hello All,
This morning I added 2 more states to the Home Depot poi file and there is one for Sparks, NV that I am unable to get the coordinates. All I am able to get is the zip code location but NOT the address location. It is located at what I think is a new mall/plaza known as Spanish Springs at this address:

4655 Galleria Pkwy
Sparks, NV 89436
(775)354-2245

What I need is someone in the area to get the coords for me so I can complete the NV portion of the file.

I'm new to downloading custom POI's and was wondering if there are any websites that offer waypoint bitmap logos for use on the POI's?

Any suggestions?

This file is growing quickly lately with almost 30 POI's in there and I know there are a lot more to go. Just trying to slowly add them over time.

There are several in there I have listed as unconfirmed (in the title of the POI and the description). Some of these places are a long way from home. On top of that, Google Earth does not have enough detail to make out some of them.

I spent a good amount of time reorganizing the POI files area today. Some of the original categories had quite a few files, and it was getting a little hard to find things.

Hello everyone,
We have been having people post POI Files that we already have. If you post a duplicate file without explaining what makes yours different it will be deleted and the original file will stay up. We don't need to have more than one database of a store.

Okay, don't mean to be sounding like the site admin here, but some of the POI's being uploaded are not getting any information associated with them. When you upload, there's plenty of room there to explain what your POI's are for. I enjoy downloading them but don't want to have to guess at what a file is for.

For example, NJ Checkpoints, what on earth is that? Is it a name of a place to cash checks? Is it a station where the feds check to make sure I'm not smuggling illegal aliens? Is it where I get my car checked for emissions?

Does someone know where or how I can acquire the rest areas along the I-81 and I-95 from Ottawa Ontario to Miami Florida.

Is anyone working on Travel America Plazas? I use them quite a bit while traveling.

How can a poi file become corrupt it's an exel sheet with long/lat and a .cvs extension correct. I am having problems with the lakes and coves poi files they lock up my garmin 660 every time i access them. The poi loader also say's can only access or use half of the information in this file and reads the rest like it's corrupt. Any sugestions?

The Cemeteries in Texas denotes being a complete list of all cemeteries in Texas. The list cannot be complete, as I know of 3 major (more than 50 years old) cemeteries in Van Zandt County that are not listed, plus many more. I am sure there are many more in other counties. I don't think it should be called a "complete list".

It looks like we are getting some double entries on some of the Poi files. I want to make sure that we are not all working on the same stuff so if you have something you are working on please put up a post in this forum so that others don't start building the same file that you are working on. We now have two Super Walmart Store Files. I am going to compare the two and take down one of them.

I just uploaded all listed proving grounds that I found in publication from Ford. Would someone please download it and make sure I have it in the correct format?
