POI projects

Getting ready to take the family down to Disney World for the Holidays and we'll be travelling down I-95 from Washington D.C. to Orlando.

Is there a POI file for interesting points along the way? Sidetrips that the kids (13,11,7) might find interesing, unique restaurants, anything interesting?

I'm finding that once I downloaded the file,(over 27,000 locations) was kind of hard to swallow. After checking both in person and by phone about 1/2 of the listed locations within a 10 mile radius of my home don't have kiosks and have no plans to add them either. I did notice the file once had 7000 some locations, then it shot up to over 27,000 locations very quickly.

I have been looking for a nationwide listing of Chevron stations and only found one for Florida and one for Chevron Diesel in ID, OR and WA.

There has been previous discussion about this project.....has anything been completed or is it in the works ?

I have loaded the rest stops and found some to be inaccurate. How can I update the current files that are listed here?

You know bumps in the road you drag (or hang up) the undercarriage of a motor-coach, bus, RV or double drop trailer. I drive a charter bus and wonder if there is any interest in this type of POI.

This could be just a place where two roads intersect that cause a problem, or RR crossings, etc.

I have just started doing this for areas I have had problems.

I downloaded the Fazolis poi file on to my Garmin 255W, but when I do a search of local Fazolis near where I live here in Mich, all it pulls up is one in Joliet, IL? Any ideas why other closer locations to where I live are not showing up?

Sorry to bother all you GPS techies but I am new to this world. I purchased a new Garmin on Friday and found your website on Sunday. I downloaded all the Shell gas stations, red light cameras, and speed cameras. I don't know if it worked. I also downloaded the Bitmap for Shell to make it easier to find on the GPS. I drove by the Shell gas station but nothing appeared on my Garmin.

To whom ever is maintaining the Baja Fresh file (mcmargarine?), the restaurant in Red Bank, NJ (Middletown) no longer exists.

To the keeper/maintainer of this file:

The combined: WalMart, Sam's Clubs, and Super WalMart Centers US and Canada Combined POI contains an error in the location of one of the Sam's stores in the St. Louis area.

1. The coordinates for "St. Louis Park" location sends you to baugrandger Road the store does not exist at that location.

I used the Golden corral POI file that I downloaded from this site. However, the location of the Akron Golden corral, at 79 Springside Drive was not accurate. I was with a friend and I said, turn left (according to the GPS) and he said, "but I see the sign for it on the right". I said, the GPS is never wrong! Opps! It was.

I have a Garmin nuvi 750. When i download a POI and then download another POI it earases the first one that i download. Can i do anything about that?

just upgraded to beta 4.4.5 due to a runtime error in 4.4.2. this new version has a limit of a 100 entries. is there a setting to override this limit?

I am in NYC. Can someone post all Checkers restaurants instead of Drive Ins only please?

would like to see a POI files for all the beaches in the US.

It wss suggested that I start a new thread for a diner list POI -- the old-fashioned diners where you can get anything to eat at any time day or night. I am not sophisticated enough to know how to do this so any help would be appreciated.

Are there any POI Files for the Middle East? Dubai?

I am a total noob to gps. In fact, I am trying to help a friend with her Garmin 260. I was directed to this site by someone on the Airstream forum. I have looked around quite a bit here and have a few questions.

I'm going to be on a VERY long trip in the next few weeks....

Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, the North East, Midwest, and then finally, home sweet flat barren desert home.

Give me some ideas for what would be most beneficial to the site. I will have a laptop, and Garmin C330 (borrowed from a relative) with me.
