Welcome / open talk

Last trip

Well the last big trip was a drive from South Carolina up to Canada and around Lake Superior and back. My Garmin worked well (till the power connection failed). I used it most around the towns and cities in Canada and Michigan and on the freeway up. I really like knowing ahead of time how far it is to a turn and if its on the right or the left.

Rest areas

New to the site.

I have downloaded the rest area file which is in a Excel spread sheet format. What's the best way to make the file usable on a Garmin 1390T?

Thanks

How do new phones stack up as a gps?

I just got one of those droid phones through work, so I decided to use the gps feature. I was really surprised, as far as I could tell, it was just as good as my nuvi 660.

Could these phones render units like the nuvi obsolete? The trend is to have less devices, so what if that phone you carry anyway does gps, does it well, and for free?

Food for thought!

Big Brother (insurance company)

The reason I dropped GEICO insurance years ago was because they thought that they had some right to ask me if I had a radar detector in my car, in a state where they were legal. They would send me questionairs!! Insurance companies were never my favorite parts of life in the first place. But, I used to think that they were a little bit necessary.

Now the insurance companies are connecting

It seems at lest one progressive insurance company wants to connect to your car so it can adjust its rates based on your driving.

Vehicle Taking Photographs Of Highway?

I live in the Twin Cities Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MN) Metropolitan area. A few days ago when I was on Interstate 94 there was a vehicle, I think it was a sports utility vehicle of some type, traveling westbound on I-94 with what appeared to be two electronic flashes operating on it. One was about a foot higher than the other one.

Cross Country trip

I have been putting on a lot of miles on our cross country trip. Gps has worked pretty well except lost signal up on Owl Creek Pass and Chimney Rock CO.I think Samantha got scared.

Here are some pictures we have taken. Warning a lot of them.

One night in Memphis - too many choices

My wife and I are taking a trip to Florida from KC, and will be spending an afternoon/evening in Memphis on our way back next weekend. We're staying at the Peabody, and have heard that Beale Street is the place to go, but it looks a bit overwhelming to say the least.

Suggestions for Florida Panhandle
