companies providing POI files
I'm finding more and more companies providing store location POI files on their Websites. Maybe we could provide a link option in the POI File section, rather than posting a static file?
For example, ScotiaBank has a file of locations, ExxonMobil does too - might be better for us to post the links so it is always current?

This week we are recognizing Dobs108.
This kind gentleman is always so helpful in the forums and also behind the scenes in his area of NY. I really appreciate his attention to detail and helping to make sure that things are correct in the red light camera file.
I love reading his posts, they are always so interesting and insightful.

I have found a company in Calif. who sells the adapter to unlock the GPS units in Toyota SIenna and LExus so that the user can search poi, input addresses while driving. ALso this adapter will allow user to use the radion/music section without restriction (like searching for multiple folders, songs on ipod ect).

Map Quality / Accuracy
I just purchased a nuvi 1450T, and I find it very refreshing compared to my old TomTom 930T. One of the things that seriously frustrated me with TomTom was the lack of accuracy in the maps. I am not referring to a brand new overpass, but in one case a piece of highway that has been in place for over 10 years and is 15 miles long, but TomTom's maps were unaware of it.

Will Your Next GPS Have Wifi?
I have been using my Garminfone for about a month now. This is actually my third GPS phone. The first two were a Pharos GPS Phone 600 with Garmin Mobile XT and more recently the Garmin Nuvifone G60. I must say that I really like this device. I have my T-Mobile SIM card in it, but I stopped using the data plan on it a few days ago.

Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race
Yet, another use of GPS technology...
Today is the first day of the Gordon Bennett International Gas Balloon Race. This is a multi-day, distance race with gas filled (hydrogen and helium) balloons.
These balloons are very different than hot-air balloons.
This year's launch is being hosted in the UK in the Southern town of Bristol.

And now for something completely different...
Why do people speed on the freeway? With the exception of those grossly exceeding the speed limit, the general sentiment seems to be that the majority of commuters may be speeding several miles above the speed limit but doing so to enhance traffic flow in a relatively reasonable manner.

Another use for a Garmin
Had to run alot of errands today. Before I left I copied and pasted my list into Powerpoint. (I use MS Office 2007). Horizontal orientation for the slides. I Saved the slide with my list as a JPEG file and transferred it to the JPEG folder on the 1450. I had a nice easy way to reference my "To Do" list as I made my stops.

Map Reading and Land Navigation
Just an FYI for anyone that is interested, here is a link to a fabulous book (PDF format) produced by the US Army on Map Reading and Land Navigation. Since there have been several discussions about paper map backups and such I thought you might get some great info out of this piece, I know I have.

Summerville, West Virginia
I'm traveling to South Carolina, soon and have heard of the infamous Summerville Speed Trap, along Hwy 19.
Does anyone have the coordinates that show where it changes from 65 MPH to 50 MPH.
I plan to stay alert and my wife will be watching as well, but one can never be too careful with a place like this.
