AAA

I renewed my AAA membership by phone the other day and brought up putting coordinates in the tour books for the different listings. I don't know if this guy knew what he was talking about, but he said they would be furnishing coordinates starting with the 2011 tour books.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Accurate coordinates

I hope they will be accurate.

AAA

A friend of mine told me the same thing.

For?

The next edition of AAA tour books will have coordinates for attractions, or for lodging and restaurants, or everything?

Yeah, just missing one coordinate by one digit could really mess up your vacation day, if you were counting on it to get you there and your GPS took you a hundred miles in the wrong direction...

I've been an AAA member for many years but it's been awhile since I've sought out an AAA tour book from them. I tend to do all my trip planning on the web. AAA used to recoup a lot of their cost of producing those tour books, including the cost of rating accommodations, by selling advertising. If circulation of those books is dropping because of the web, I wonder how long they'll keep producing them for members.

2D or 3D Bar Code in Tour Book

If the 2D barcode (QR) folks standardized on the coding of coordinates, then they could be published in the AAA paper book. Of course the GPSr would need a camera to scan them in. Hopefully this isn't a patentable idea wink

Now THAT peaks my techno-interest! Kewl!!

..Anyone remember the QueCats from Radio Shack & others? Neat idea looking for better applications/devices/and a better business model.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

That sounds interesting.

That sounds interesting. Plug in the coordinates, save as a POI and go on a roadtrip.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

Hopefully that is true, it

Hopefully that is true, it would make them a lot more useful to me. I received AAA membership as a gift and am trying to decide if it would be worth renewing myself once the gift membership is up. I recently learned that the AAA membership card is usable as bond if you receive a ticket in Illinois which is honestly the most valuable perk about which I am currently aware.

I have been a member for

I have been a member for over 30 years and this would be extremely useful if as you say the coordinates are accurate, you could just plug them in and go...

and CAA?

Presumably the same information would apply to the CAA tourbooks/ Canadian locations.

I did ask about the coordinates of CAA retail offices across the country (where they issue maps 'n stuff) but was advised that a listing does not exist....to bad!

AAA POIs

This has probably been though of already but:
what about mapping an "AAA" coordinates database
to a customized trip-tic, to create a route POI file. Possibly the traveler could do this dynamically by planning his route in AAA online, and the site could create a printable trip-tic as well as a downloadable route poi file. Is this similar to what MAPSOURCE does?

Query

Any idea how often the coordinates would be updated/expanded?
