Creating POI files

i have an excel spreadsheat with the addresses and latitude & longitude coordinates of 180 locations. HOW can I make it into a .csv or .gpx file for my Garmin to read?

Just got my Garmin nuvi 750, and I am already tinkering with it. I've come up with a project to create a POI file of all the fire hydrants in my VFD area of responsibility. This is a rural area, we sometimes have to go some distance to find a hydrant, and it is hard to remember and find them all, especially at night. We have paper lists and maps, but I would like my GPS to display them.

Does anyone have a suggestion or method for obtaining an accurate way to get the GPS address for multiple addresses? I am aware of GPS Visualizer and think it works okay sometimes, but there are times when the addresses are not accurate. It does not matter if the software is free or pay, I am interested in using it.

Is there a way to assign an icon to different POI's in a POI file?

I remember seeing a nice page that displayed many icons and you could download them. At the time, I was looking for a church and there were 2-3 there. I thought it was on this site but can't find it anymore. It is not this listing www.poi-factory.com/gps-icons.

I'm looking for a Christmas tree or something like that for a POI involving Christmas light displays.

I have read several articles here regarding creating POI files but so far nothing mentions exactly what should be chosen as the location of something other the coordinates for addresses as they are known by map services.
What are the guidelines for choosing coordinates for something?

For example: suppose the coordinates I find for a location/address are incorrect: like for a business.

I am looking for the POI file for WM, Super WM and Sams clubs combined.

When I click on the link here it takes me back to the first page and so on. I'm stuck in a loop. Am I that dense or is something askew here.

I've been learning about my New Garmin Nuvi and know how to upload poi files, etc. I have created a few Google maps of attraction, food, etc. and know how to upload those to my Nuvi.

I am wanting to create a POI file for a bank in GA called bank of north GA. I am new here so I need to know where to start. If someone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Just got a new Garmin 760 and have now found this great site on POI uploading. I will admit that I am on the short yellow school bus but when it comes to uploading new POI and I seem to be struggling.

Once again, the search function on this site has failed to produce any useful info. Sigh...

So I apologize ahead of time if this has been covered many times. I am looking for a general-purpose "barbecue/BBQ" icon. Failing to find one here, I found a simple (recognizable at 22X22, I hope) JPG of a pig. But I can't figure out how to produce a BMP of the proper size.

I'm really new at this, I have downloaded some poi files and they are really useful. I have also been trying to make some of my own. I am a cross country truck driver, so I get across country to a lot of places fast. The problem I am having is. I save as favorites all of the places I want to make a poi for.I have been using the entrance to get the co-ordinances.

When posting a new POI file, is it best to post a CSV or GPX file? I have created both for my POI's but wanted to know which is prefered.

For sure someone knows the answer to this but I don't. I am trying to upload some POI files. When I create them in excel and try and save them as .csv I get an error message that states "some of the components of this file are not compatible with CSV files". Just not sure where the error is but it is limiting the number of POI posted in the file I am uploading. Any thoughts?

I was wondering if any of you had ever bothered to try to make use of a subset of POI's downloaded from here, in the following manner.

Say that I make a round trip, 3-4 times a year, and take the same route each time. I want my nuvi to keep me guided by reminding me of the exits I need to watch out for, so I still want to load my saved route each time.

need a quick way to make poi files

I wanted to creat new POI list and also possibly get involved with updating current projects.

If I have a building/landmark that sits off the roadway, is it preferred to use the lat/long of the entrance to the parking lot right off the street; or, should I lat/long the center of the actual building/landmark (using something like Google Earth, etc.).

Looking for some thing to keep me off of a parkway or any other non-Commercial road

I have found a nice piece of software that converts CSV to KML and KML to CSV.
