I wanted to creat new POI list and also possibly get involved with updating current projects.
If I have a building/landmark that sits off the roadway, is it preferred to use the lat/long of the entrance to the parking lot right off the street; or, should I lat/long the center of the actual building/landmark (using something like Google Earth, etc.).
I have experienced several that were created by others that I'm already in the gas station parking lot and it still tells me I'm not there yet.
Entrance
You definitely want the coordinates of the entrance to the parking lot. Otherwise, proximity alerts might not trigger, since POI's only trigger along the route and a location further than 50 ft from the road might not be considered along the route. Even without a proximity alert, choosing the POI that is remote from the roadway will result in the unit trying to take you to the closest point on the roadway to the POI -- even if the entrance is before that point, and the unit may not consider you to have reached the destination -- perhaps the situation you described.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
