Creating POI files

Loved the idea of loading POIs and did so successfully but have now gotten message indicating I can no longer add a new Favorite. When I tried using POI Loader to remove all custom POIs it seemed to work properly but I still see all the custom POIs in with my Favorites.
Any ideas?

Suggestions to those who maintain poi files via member contribution, such as Mom & Pop Ice Cream. If you have a google account, you can create a spreadsheet form for poi-factory members to input the necessary information, and this will be presented to you in a spreadsheet format at your Google Docs.

Hi there. I just found this site after picking up a Nuvi 780 today and I wanted to contribute except I'm having trouble. I figured I would make a GPX file as you can fit more information into it (and maybe create a CSV afterwards because they're simpler), but I've run into some obstacles. Firstly I'm not sure what program to use to create it.

I have a excel spreadsheet with POI that I loaded into my 2720 with no problem. Now how do I get these POI’s to show in Mapsource for use when trip planning. New member – thanks Ron

I recently had my Garmin stolen. I purchased a GO740 live. Can red light camreras be down loaded from this site?

Some nuvis (my 260W, for instance) use <br> to create a new line in the comment field. Others use carriage return linefeed (CR LF, hex 0D 0A) to do the same thing.

It is pretty easy to convert .csv files using <br> format to CR LF format by using a hexadecimal editor, such as HxD (http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/).

Hi all, new here I had a quick question about some of the Red light POIs I downloaded yesterday, I tried one out and it worked perfect, but I was wondering if there was a way to edit the text on the alert on the screen.

I noticed I can extract 'favourites' I have marked in the GPS over to my computer using Mapsource. It did not transfer over the POI files loaded with POI loader - so I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do that.

An example might be if I had a GPS with custom POI's and I had lost the original source file.

I am working on a CSV file of Total gas stations in Morocco where I am supposed to have something like this in the field name:

"Station Total My Driss 1Er
Carburant - Entretien - Lavage - Boutique"

The output I am having on the nuvi 205 is:

OK, I have a new PC, so I am in the process of loading all the must have software for my (also new) NUVI 765T.

In working on the Panhandle section of the Florida Birding Trail guide file, I have been putting much of the text from the printed guide in the description section. This is sometimes quite a bit of information on trails, species, and other information.

I just spent quite a bit of time plotting out a route for a road trip on Bing (formerly Live.com) Maps.

After a lot of fooling around with different methods to get those waypoints onto my laptop where I could edit them to my liking, I discovered that Bing Maps now has an option to export a Collection directly to a GPX file.

This cuts out a bunch of hacking for me.

For those now working on or may be working on POI files in the future, I believe I may have discovered how to insert line breaks (dependably). It is the insertion of a simple “pipe”, “|” (uppercase backslash) character wherever a line break is desired for better display clarity.

Hello. I'm new to this list. Can someone tell me what the difference is between a POI and a Waypoint? Is a Waypoint a type of POI? Is a route with a series of waypoints from a TOPO map just a series of POI's?

Forgive me for the novice question... I'm just starting to look at creating POIs.

I'm curious in learning whether it's possible, or what work-arounds are possible, for POIs that change on a daily basis. Is it possible to load a week's worth of POIs at a time and only the ones active for Monday show on that date, then disappear on Tuesday?

Any insight is appreciated, thanks in advance!

The material does not appear to be copyrighted or otherwise protected. The guides are free to the public both in print and PDF versions.

I've updated the CSV Splitter app to include a Search by Radius function.

1) Select a file, or for this function you can select as many files as you want and have it merge them all into one CSV file.

2) Choose an output file name

3) Enter a Latitude and Longitude to search around.

Has anyone tried to convert the ov2 to gsp for the redlight cameras to work on the Geosat 5? It can't recognize the file as redlight. does it have to have a spcial name to make it work.? as redligh.gsp?
or is there something else involved.

I have tried to get or listen to POI sound files from site but having no response from site?? Is your links or server having issues
