Creating POI files

Has anyone tried to convert the ov2 to gsp for the redlight cameras to work on the Geosat 5? It can't recognize the file as redlight. does it have to have a spcial name to make it work.? as redligh.gsp?
or is there something else involved.

I have tried to get or listen to POI sound files from site but having no response from site?? Is your links or server having issues

I downloaded POI Speed Camera files, installed through Garmin POI loader, Installed ok except the Approaching Warning Alert is so low it is barely audible? I have volume up all the way and all alert settings on? Any Suggestions? Thanks

I've been trying for days to get the POI Loader for Garmin to load. Once I download, I click yes to run the program and at exit, I click on the "open POI" and done, and it just doesn't come up.

Then I go into my Garmin Nuvi 765 (which is hooked up to the computer) and I can see all the poi files that I dragged and dropped into the folder, but when I restart my garmin, they're not there..

When using GPS Visualizer for getting multiple GPS coordinates, which map source provides the better information as the source, Google or Yahoo? If you use both sources on different runs with the same data, they often give different coordinates.

I have been working on a GPX file listing the locations of all of the historical signs in the state of Ohio. I wrote the file for my own use and it has taken me about 6 weeks to get it to this point. I've decided that I can't finish the project, the info just isn't available on the Internet. My current file has around 1500 entries that appear to have the correct coordinates and other info.

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered many times before. Perhaps a moderator could move it to the right place.

I understand that the sound and POI files have to have the exact same spelling. Is that also true for the .BMP file? Thanks.

With the talk of complicated ways to split CSV files into states, I decided to write a quick app to do it all pretty quickly:

I did this over lunch break, and there's not much in the way of error checking and beautiful interface, but it worked really well with the Home Depot .CSV file.

Hello Miss POI and Everyone.
Would it be a good idea if everyone who accept to share their POI files on this site opt for and conform to a certain "standard" as far as the syntax is concern? Many of the files I have downloaded have to be reworked because proper syntax has not been observed by the publisher.

Is it possible to create timed proximity alerts?

Couple of applications:

Warn about school zones only when they are in effect.

Provide an alert when you are close to a Sonic Drive in between 2 and 4 local time (happy hour 1/2 price drinks )

I'm sure there are other applications.

I'm spending a week in New York in June and am trying to add a list of 81 possible locations into my nuvi 205. Using turboccc's marvelous Extra_POI_Editor, the creation went without a hitch. But, when I go to upload them into the nuvi, only about half of them make it in.

added files to sd card and they work, 885t ask if i want to load i say no, and it moves on, however if i want to add more pois to card at a later date, how do I do that without having to reload the whole card with the garmin poi loader. thanks i no its in here but i missed it....

I'm trying to create some tour loops and haven't seen any info on this here on the website. Specifically, I want to create a route with a series of destinations that end back at the "start" point. Ideally, once I created one of these files, the user could go to the nearest destination, and then follow the route in the defined order. Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.

I have a Magellen 3225. I downloaded the RLC (saved as RLC 05 20 2009). I opened the Editor, selected "all files" & found RLC, selected line 1, used the semi-comma (default) seperator. At "finish" I receive "fields name, lat & long are manditory for import". All of my downloaded POI's have the same problem. What did I do wrong? THX 4 Help!

Hey folks - when my wife and I drive across country, we usually drive overnight. That means I end up constantly seeking on the AM dial for continuous reception of Coast-to-Coast AM.

Can anybody help guide me as to how I might make a POI file to include stations that carry the show? I imagine I can find a station list on their website, but I'm lost as to how to continue from there.

I must be really dense. I keep reading how you can put .csv/.gpx files in subdirectories on your hard drive so that you can create sub-categories that show up in your "Extras" folder. When I run Garmin's POI loader though, it won't accept it. It will only take a directory with something in it. For example, I have:

c:\Garmin\Custom POI\Ham Radio\2M Repeaters\2M Repeaters.csv

Ok. I've been reading up on the TourGuide and proximities and came upon a few questions.

I'm using the Extra-POI-Editor, and set a proximity on a few POI Files and some work and some don't.

For example - The Rest Stop Combined POI. I set to a 1.5 mile proximity and it alerts when it's in range, BUT it keeps alerting every 5 seconds until I'm past the entrance of the rest area.

In the course of my employment I travel to county courthouses throughout Wisconsin, so I've created a POI listing all 72 counties (Lon/Lat, Name, Address)... no problems. The "custom" POI loads without error, BUT for some reason I'm only seeing 52 counties (4 POI per screen / 13 screens - down arrows) vs. 72 (4 POI per screen / 18 screens - down arrows).... Being new to this process I'm stumped.
