Garmin talk

Hi. I pushed the strength bar icon, closed the antenna and noticed it seems like the nuvi 350 is still connected to the satellites... the signal strength varies slightly on each satellite. On top it states GPS is Off -- but it looks like it's still connected?

A newbie to the GPS world here. My wife tired of me calling for directions!!

Can I obtain POI's that pertain to certain states? Where can I find them?
(golf courses, dog parks, walk trails, etc...)

I have found some files, but they have let's say 500 locations of all the Home Depots. What if I just want Washington?

Any info, tips or insight would be wonderful.

Does anyone have a database for a Garmin nuvi 760 to locate lakes and boat launches in Connecticut, New England or the USA?

How does one go about finding and/or producing this type of information to be put on a personal travel assistant.

It seems to me and anyone I have spoken to that this database would be invaluable to boaters and fishing enthusiats.

On a trip yesterday, lost satellite reception on the George Washington Bridge, got it back a minute or two later. Was this a coincidence, or are big suspension bridges associated with lost reception more generally (lots of steel, bouncing every which way, etc.)

I goofed, my question should have been, on my garmin 260, how do I turn my POI's "alerts" on??

I'm fairly new to the Garmin product and was trying to upload through the POI Loader. I created and have legitimate POI's titled Lighthouses. I placed an MP3 into the POI folder on the desktop and renamed it Lighthouses and uploaded the file to the GPS device.

Can someone please tell me the difference between a CSV file and a GPX file.

HI all, Quite happy with the Nuvi 760, but have a query. I've organized a route of about 6 POI. The Nuvi arranged them in the most appropriate order. While visiting each route, some of the POI were either 50 or 100 meters out of the way, which is quite acceptable, I believe, as some of them were downloaded on my SD card from POI factory.

I was shopping at Sams Club yesterday and noticed that they have a Nuvi 750 for $300 dollars, Is that a good price for that model?

Could anyone tell me how to update the C340 with the Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2009 version? When I try to do it it asks me to have a SD card. Can I overwrite(flash) the existing 2008 version on the internal memory? If so, How do it do that?

If I cant? Will the C340 support a 4gb SDHC card?

I did a lot of reading to determine which GPS to buy and settled on the nuvi 750. I am very happy with it except for one thing, the mapping game.

Making Directional POIs

You can make directional POIs on divided highways, such as interstates and any other 4 or more lanes divided road that shows as 2 separate roads on your Nuvi or MapSource. These lanes will normally show xxx N, xxx S, xxx E or xxx W when you put your cursor on them.

So has anyone experienced this yet? I had several European and US POI's on Hard drive and MP3 files on hard drive and SD card. I got on a plane the other day and the MP3 files are now missing, only the folder names of the European files are displayed with no files found inside and only the US POI's are still there? Why would the US files remain and the European files and MP3's dissapear?

has anyone tried Garmin Mobile PC with GPS 20x ?

I have Garmin GPS on my kenwood tv deck. I can't put in coordinates. Doesnt seem to be a place to do that. Does anyone know of updates to be able to do that?

I just got my garmin nuvi 200w and was going to update the map to the 2009 but the map updater kept telling me that i didnt have enough room to do it. so in my infinate wisdom i went in and deleted the jpegs that were in it from the factory which isnt bad but then i deleted all the voice files and now i dont have any voices.

Just loaded the POI loader and am trying to figure out where to go from here.
L.A. Times had a POI file for red light cameras, but the garmin loader didn't recognize its format.

What is the usual format for these files?
The one that got downloaded from the L.A. Times site had the peculiar title:
LA County Redlight Cameras.csv.txt

I'm having a problem trying to buy maps online from Garmin because I live in Canada. They only ship to the States. How do you get them as I am planning a trip to Europe?
