I bought the updated 2009 map and all is well. Things look a little different but I can't quite remember how they compare with the 2008 City Navigator.
My questions:
Besides new roads and POIs, what is new about the maps?
Are the maps using different renderings, colors, or text?
Do maps draw faster, or have other improvements?
I don't think so
I don't think the map data can change the way your GPSr displays the info, unless it changes the road category from dirt to paved, for example.

I have noticed some difference. I had a post about this a while back and not many people had noticed it. My map appears to be viewed from a slightly different angle. I can see more screen ahead and to the sides now. When I am within the city limits of a town the map is yellow but when I am outside of city limits of any town the map is back to white. That is really all that I have seen that is different.

I have also noticed more building outlines on the maps when in cities as well as different icons. (i.e like Starbucks has their own icon now)
