The csv file is loaded into your gps and your gps can display the info.. You can open it as text file using notepad if you don't have excel... Assuming you aren't using a Mac...

The problem you are having is with the computer opening the file right?Right click on the file and when you see open with select notepad. Most computers have that program.

On a Mac you can open it as a text file using TextEdit (and other notes type applications).

Why do you want to open the file? Do you realize that you can load the file onto the GPSr without opening it?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Open with any text editor

A CSV file is just a text file with commas separating the fields. Excel will open it and put each field in its own cell, not showing the commas. But you can open it with notepad, wordpad, textpad or any other program that you would use to open a .txt file.

If you use the Gnome desktop in Linux, use gedit ... works a treat too.
