Garmin talk

I've tried to add the 407 as a custom avoidance but my 770 refuses to accept it. As a truck driver, my company does not allow driving on the 407, but we do use toll bridges and toll roads in the US.

I have a new Dezl 760LM and will not take the SD card with a GPI file on it. Any suggestions will help thanks

I posted parts of this in another thread a few days ago and decided it deserved a topic of its own.

Upon launching my Garmin USA app on my iPhone, I noticed that there was a much needed update released for the maps (and presumably POIs also) - at last. Settings, My Maps is showing 2017.30 rather than 2018.10, the latest on the physical Garmins, but hey, that's a lot better than what it was 2016.something. Download the update today - but do it over WIFI as it's a gig or more.

My brother has a nuvi 50 and it has a status display that takes up about 1/3rd of the map on the right side of the display. He can't seem to find any way to disable that or turn it off.

I have an image of that screen but I guess I cannot attach or post it here?

On my older GPS units, specifically the Garmin Nuvi 350, 360, and 500, if I go to Where To, and enter nothing, it will display preloaded POIs near me. I have actually found that to be quite handy a number of times.

With my Garmin Nuvi 3597, if I don't enter anything in Where To, it will not display anything. Has anybody noticed this and do you ever use your Garmin this way?

Does anybody remember, or still have/use, the Garmin nüLink! 1690/1695 LIVE GPS units? I never had either one, but I remember thinking that they were pretty cool years ago. I am wondering if Garmin would ever resurrect those features, but rather than having it with it's own cellular connection, have it link to your smartphone via bluetooth, like we do with traffic.

I noticed today that my Garmin Nuvi 3597 doesn't always select the fastest route, even though that is what I have selected on the unit. Here is an example from this afternoon. I am at my neighborhood Home Depot and selected my nearby Wal-Mart. The ETA for the route it selected was 14:39 CST.

I loaded GE today, to see if any update was needed.... None. But...
It tells me my Nuvi 660 has an update.... 2689LMT does not need update, but Nuvi 660 does!!

Last thing I did with GE was Last week: Updated Maps on both 2689LMT and Nuvi 660...

So I click on 660 and find out it thinks I didn't load maps!

Click the Address button my Garmin 2460 it now displays "Map Data not available". This happened after I completed update of the maps using the Garmin Express utility.

So I know I can use voice command to find places in my "saved Places."

Now, I've gone into the saved places and created categories and placed similar places into the new categories.

We purchased the Streetpilot 7500 for our motorhome in 2006. It is still in great condition but I have no idea if it is still useful/updateable/valuable in any way.

Does anyone know how to transfer Custom Avoidances from one map release to another? Every update I am re-entering Custom Avoidances into the new maps. TIA

I was wondering how dated the map updates are by the time they're released.

Here in the Chicago area, we've had a lot of highways redesigned and re-routed in the last year or two, one of them being converted into a tollway (and at about $0.19 p/mile, the most expensive one in the state) that started collecting tolls in early July, though toll collection had been planned years earlier.

Up date 3597 to 2018.10 is a disaster. Never had a problem in the past with any up date. Unit shows 2018.10 installed. I downloaded to device only.

After up date map only shows major roads in yellow NO secondary roads can not navigate in simulator mode (tries but can't make turns) and green line showing my last several trips.

I have a 2016 gl1800 level 3 , i have made a route with Base camp
and put it on the SDcard that came with the bike . i can see it
on the bike gps and ride the route o.k ,but i can not get the nav screen to go back to the regular standard map screen , the one that comes up when you turn the bike on .
any ideas ?.

Download both parts below and extract using WinRAR or 7-Zip. Internet Explorer users are required to use another browser as Internet explorer will crash. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and even Edge should work without issue.

Others have reported as well so problem is not unique. When downloading update I get the red icon "There was a problem installing the update." Approx. 1/2 way complete then I get the message. Tried unplugging and restarting with same results?
Any ideas?
