Proximity alerts

I have done this a few years ago. I will use POI loader to load rest areas, certain gas stations, red light and speed cameras. Maybe a few others. I'm not sure what I used last time.
What is the general consensus on the proximity alert distances?
What do you use and maybe a reason.

It really varies

I use 16,000 feet for Rest Areas, accept the default distance for red/speed cams, and would never set an alert for a gas station. I'm sure you'll get varied answers.

Yes, it will vary

The primary variable for me is whether or not I will soon be going on a trip. If that is the case, then I want the Rest Areas POI file to alert me whenever one is up ahead. The distance I choose is 5000 feet which lets me and/or my wife have ample time to determine whether or not a pit stop is in order. Others will likely make a different judgement as to distance.

Note that, on a trip, I will usually be on a "route".

I also make the Cracker Barrel file into a "TourGuide" file so that it will alert whenever I travel within a 5000 foot radius of a location. That is because Cracker Barrels will not often be within 30 meters (98 feet) of the route I am on.

speed cameras alert distance

I run POI Loader in manual. For speed cameras I choose a speed alert with the default speed of zero.

Do not enter a number because the speed for each speed camera is inside the file and overrides the default zero on being loaded into the GPS.

The speed determines the proximity alert distance.

alerts

I will leave the other alerts to their own stated distances but for rest areas, I will go with 1 1/2 mile. Roughly 7500 ft.
Thanks for the suggestions.
