Garmin talk

Anyone else NOT receiving traffic from Garmin today? I'm in Portland, OR and have a 1390t. No little green/yellow/red circle coming up on the screen.

If you plan to visit Costa Rica you have 2 GPS options for routing. You can either rent a Garmin GPS at the car rental company for $10.00 per day or you can buy a Costa
Rica map for your Garmin for $150.00. You need a GPS since the Costa Rican people don't use house numbers for directions, they use landmarks or POI for reference.

I rent cars periodically. I was thinking about picking up a nüvi 1490t (refurb) for such occasions.

It kind of reminds me of my old StreetPilot but in a smaller package. I like:
- Multiple point routing
- FM Traffic

I've read some people having reliability issues and was wondering what the general take was from those who own them.

OK....so I get the concept....but not sure why it's there...all this feature really does is link up with other users to see where they are at....right???

is anyone using this function??? Maybe I am missing the boat on this one - but I don't think so....

Hello all been contemplating about buying a new map for my Nuvi 350 is buying the map worth it as I have seen and heard that when you buy these maps they are already 1 to 2 years old. Is it still worth buying the maps?

Anyone have issues with their Garmin FM Traffic receiver? I am getting an error message that says check FM Traffic Receiver intermittently. I just subscribed to the service and I don't think it is working because of the receiver.

Any one ever loose your voice guidence and phone ability. I did an update to see if that would fix it, nada.Garmin wants 110.00 to repair. May have to bite the bullet. It has 2010 maps and msn on it. I use it alot and like the hands free phone.

I just purchased a Nuvi 1690. I still have my older Nuvi 680 and have done a little comparsion testing of each. Thought I would share some of my findings:

Nuvi 680 purchased when they first came out - maps never updated, but latest firmware loaded.

Nuvi 1690 purchased a week ago, updated the to the latest maps and software.

I am new to all of the GPS stuff and just downloaded the "Rest Stop" file to my 855 along with the outhouse icon file.
Will the out house icon show up on my map now for all of the rest stops, or is there something eles I have to do.

Currently, my Garmin uses a minute and second format when displaying GPS coordinates. Is there a way to change it to the decimal format? I have a nuvi 265w.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 750 that I have transfered my Custom POI's to from my SD card. NOW, how can I delete them from the Nuvi 750. I believe it has slowed down the 750. I wish to operate my POI's just fromt he SD card, like I used to do.

Got my new 1690 this past week and while I haven't yet seen any of the freezing or flickering issues that others have had - I am wondering if I am having a problem or not.

The issue:

I have had my unit on the USB charger now for like 5 hrs - and it has not fully charged - wondering if it needs more time or if I am really having an issue -

Fixed issue with TTS voices occasionally stuttering.
Fixed issue that could create file corruption in mass storage.

Version 4.90 available via Web Updater. Looks like it updates the traffic draw on the screen. Probably for the 660 as well.

Does anyone use the routable OpenStreetMap data? I've heard some good things about it but how well does it actually work?

I have followed the following guide to make a custom POI alert sound. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4360
I am sure I have followed the directions properly as the POI generated with the MP3 in the folder is larger then the POI genered without the MP3. However, when I upload them to my Garmin 260w the GPS does not play the audio alert. It just beeps.
