nuvi 200 map update

I understand that the internal memory of the 200 will not be enough for the new maps and some region(s) will have to go on an SD card. Will the map download process give me a choice of which region I want in internal memory and which I want on the card? How automatic is this? Is map access speed from the card comparable to that from internal memory?

RE: nuvi 200 map update

I have a Nuvi 1200 and did an update recently. You are given the choice of a full version of the lower USA (with 49 states), or smaller sections of the USA, as in, eastern or western USA. The file size should be smaller than the full version but I don't know the file size limitation for your unit. The process is very smooth but takes more than an hour to complete after you've selected the map or sections to be transferred to your unit.

Your other option is to use MapSource/MapInstall and extract only the areas you need (acquired from the full version update), compile then export those sections to your GPS unit. (Example: Let's say you just want the states of Oregon, California and Washington.)

YouTube has several tutorials on how to use MapSource.

MapSource/MapInstall are free from Garmin.

As for the choice between internal memory or SD... I don't remember being asked. That doesn't mean "no". It means, I don't remember.
