When I hook up my VIA 1535 to my computer I can not find it when I go to "my computer". Didn't have this problem with my other Tomtom (XL).

Does anyone know if it is possible to update a Tomtom Via using an iPad. I know that Adobe flash is not available on remote devices, but are there any alternatives from Tomtom to update without using flash. I see that there is a browser called Photon Flash video player on the Apple app store that uses flash. Don't know if that would allow it. My pc is temporally out of service.

Last month I went to Dearborn Mi from Toronto, ON and my TomTom XL told me I had to take a ferry to cross the border. I ignored it thinking that as I travel closer to the destination it would correct itself. When I came closer to the ferry I tried to find an alternate route which yielded another 8 hours of travelling time when I was less than 25 minutes away.

after installing 2 new maps on my xxl , not sure which one did it my house is an 1/8 mile off . i live on a street which is u shaped with a north and south street name . my new location is at the mid point in the u part/ when i actually live in the first house at the beginning of the north . any way to fix this or just not worry .

Today TomTom released a map update for their Android app.

The new map is v900, replacing the previous v895 map.

Walmart has the TomTom VIA 1535 5" GPS Unit w/ Lifetime Maps (Refurbished) for $79.98 and the TomTom XL 335SE TM 4.3" (new) for $74.98.

Can someone post their thoughts on pros and cons comparing these two units. I can't seem to find info for the 335 on TomTom's website.

Any difference in processing speed in the real world? storage capacity? User Interface?

Version 1.1 of the TomTom Android app was announced today.

Although there are a number of improvements and bug fixes, the change that will probably be most widely appreciated is that the TomTom Android app now officially supports devices with high resolution screens such as the Samsung Galaxy S3.

I am not familiar with the Tom Tom gps and a friend that has one wants to get started with POIs. The loading part I can figure out, but he doesn't want alerts. When he's in a given area he will want to just be able to look up the closest POI such as a restaurant chain etc. So my question is where does he go in the menus to look a POI up?

As I was traveling to spend time with family for Thanksgiving I updated a number of speed limits along the way. I expected them to be shared the next time I connected to TomTom Home. When I connected it let me know that there were several updates to download, but there is usually a check box down at the bottom indicating that I will upload and share my changes, it wasn't there this time.

It tells me when to stop and start

My TomTom Start 55 TM used to warn me when I was 5 mph over the speed limit. It is now warning me when I am 3 mph over.

I thought there was a setting where this threshold could be set but I can't find it.

Can someone tell me if this can be set by the user and where it is in the menu?

I had my 340tm stolen but they left the cord. I called tomtom and they generously offered to transfer my lifetime maps to a new unit (they specified a 335 or 340) but said that I would have to get a traffic unit (and use my cord) to get traffic again. Is that true? Can't I use the cord with any of the XL series and get traffic reports?

For anyone else, I delted my speed camera file in "my TOMTOM" acount online and it deleted it from my device with no way to subscribe to updates in the US. Customer service renewed it for free one time. I guess your on your own after that? THye never gave me a clear answer about the difference between the safety camera vs speed camera.

The 900.XXXX Map Edition has been released.

To what file does one transfer pictures and sounds to the Tom Tom. I know how to transfer the ,ov2 files to the North American file. Thanks.

Has anybody found that Quick GPS Fix actually results in faster acquisition of satellites? I've had it for several months now and I feel like it's just a little buggy - almost like my TomTom has more trouble starting up than not.

I had also read that some TomTom models can't even use the "ephemeris" data... is that true? I'm have an XXL 540 TM.

"ov2scan" is a free command-line utility that reads an OV2 file and displays counts for the various record types. I built it as a companion application for my "ov2optimizer" utility (see related thread here.)

As discussed previously (most recently here), there is an issue with the way many OV2 files are structured that can impair the performance of our TomTom devices.

At first I thought that the touchscreen on my GO 720 had died, but then I found that the vertical calibration had somehow gotten messed up: when I tapped in the top half of the screen I was "clicking" in the bottom half (and therefore I couldn't "click" in the top half at all).
