POI projects

Hello everyone, just a little "lets get in sync message"

I bought a 340c and it seems the poi's are about 2 years old based on restaurants and locations that are missing...

Is there an updated poi file from Garmin? or do I have to manually put in the poi's as I find them.

I'm getting married this weekend and going to Hawaii next week on my honeymoon. GPS use is allowed on Continental so I'm looking forward to using my GPS on the flight and the Garmin Topo maps in Hawaii!

I noticed the first entry for latitude is missing (has #VALUE! from Excel?) for three Covered Bridges. Veenstra could you look into getting the correct cordinates for the entries below? Note: the number is line number in the cvs file.

221 #VALUE!,38.675,Tackett Village,"Length: 72', Built: 1984"

333 #VALUE!,39.394,Roddy Road,"Length: , Built: 1850"

I'm thinking of putting together an Old Navy POI in CA...anyone interested?

Well, did my 1st POI listing, You should find POI files for Offbeat Tourist Attractions broke down by State and also 1 large file with all the states inside.

I took everyone's suggestion by doing that. There are over 1900 attractions listed in all the files at this time.

I will love to update this as I get more information from all of you.

Does anybody have POI's for White Castle's Burger(in and around Chicago area would work)?

If you find new locations of a particular interest (say restaurants), do you contact the owner of the POI to get him/her to add to their POI or what?

I am developing poi files listing the campgrounds in the "Coast to Coast" Camp Resort 2007 Directory. I would like to know whether anyone is interested in these files.

Could you please make a Beer category? There are about dozen or so scattered among restaurants, nightlife, other categories.

I am attempting to put together the sites of the Tidal Region. This area is around the Chesapeake Bay and they are identified as Gateway Sites. This region includes Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.

If anyone has any suggestions and would like to help input these addresses please give me a hollar.

Not sure which forum to put this in....but, here it is.

I use Gasbuddy (www.gasbuddy.com) to check fuel prices before I fill up to see where I can get the biggest bang for the buck when I am in a area.

They have the ability to map out all of the prices in any area of the country. Is there a way to dump the data into a POI file so that it can be loaded into the GPS for trips?

I just made one for NC ones and uploaded (how long do they take to appear?). I see that there is one up for CA. Anyone care to share other states?

I may, once I figure my new Garmin c330 out, go around and mark all of our significant buildings.

THANK YOU!!! It was surprising these past few weeks how awful TomTom is at listing rest areas along the Gulf Coast. I would have thought that Rest Areas would be one of the most important POI databases to have complete in a GPS, but the mfrs apparently think otherwise.

I noticed the highest point listed for PA is shown in the state of MD. After looking at the .cvs file the PA highpoint is the same lat/long as the MD point. Also the elevation is missing.

Below is the correction on line 38:
-79.1759,39.7862,"PA","Mount Davis 3213 FT/0 RT"

I downloaded US TV Stations.csv and used GPXtoPIO to convert to a .gpx file. I have used this method with many other csv files. I got the following Error from MapSource "..../US TV Stations.gpx could not be loaded".

MapSource should really give a line number where the parser was unable to continue. Anyone know a good way to debug this?

Does anyone know if there are any POI Files out or WIP for Brand name gas stations, like SHELL, or TEXACO? This would be helpful while traveling and need to find a station that takes your particular credit card.
