Updates to Covered Bridges.cvs

Hi,

I noticed the first entry for latitude is missing (has #VALUE! from Excel?) for three Covered Bridges. Veenstra could you look into getting the correct cordinates for the entries below? Note: the number is line number in the cvs file.

221 #VALUE!,38.675,Tackett Village,"Length: 72', Built: 1984"

333 #VALUE!,39.394,Roddy Road,"Length: , Built: 1850"

1097 #VALUE!,40.852,Samual George,"Length: 27', Built: 1975"

If no one is going to fix

If no one is going to fix this I can lookup a location close by. No idea how far off the location may be.

Miss POI what is the website's policy for abandoned POIs? I would be willing to post my updates, if Veenstra is not responding.

Procedure for getting poi files fixed

The best approach to take to make corrections to a file is to send a note through the contact page of the authors profile page. If it bounces back you can get a hold of me and I will send them a note.

Thanks tick.

OK stupid question? Where is

OK stupid question?
Where is the contact tab? I know I found it before.

Also I have the box checked for others to allow them to send me email, but I don't see the contact tab on my profile?

I really do appreciate all the work people do on these POI. The covered bridges POI is a huge list obviously converted from a database (#VALUE! is a dead giveaway), but it's frustrating trying to contacting the POI owners when I find typo or duplicates.

I always convert the files to GPX so I can view them with MapSource so I seem to find problems.

Any chance making a clean POI Verifier log required before accepting POIs? This may inhibit updates , but quality is important.

Just click on the Author's name and you'll see the 'Contact' tab. You won't see your own as you have no need to contact yourself.

Ah thanks RT. And also a big thanks for POI Verifier which found a few problems with my POIs!

By the way Veenstra does not allow me to send a message. So Miss POI could please contact him or her? Not posting for 12 weeks I am doubtful you will get a response from Veenstra.

Updates to Covered Bridges.cvs

I found the error and have uploaded a new file. Sorry for any inconvenience. Enjoy the file.

Thank you veenstra. Miss Poi

Thank you veenstra.

Miss Poi just learned a new trick, sometimes you don't have to wait for someone you like to come back to the site, you can always poke them a bit and force them to make an appearance:)

Covered Bridge? Covered by asphalt maybe....

Hi I love the concept of finding covered bridges, but I tried two of them this weekend and found nothing. I tried "Peterson" and "Southern Star", both supposed to be in Connecticut. Nothing was there when I got there. I also found it odd that they were listed as being built in 1976 and 1977 (respectively). I tried to contact Veenstra, but there is no contact on that person's profile. I merely would like to point out that the bridges are not there, I am not mad, just disappointed that the first 2 I tried, were wasted time. (not that wasted because I was , at least on the bike in a good riding area.) Thanks for the work on the file.

Re: Covered Bridges

I've taken a look at this file and am a bit disheartened also.

There's of course Joehome's comment and then the number of entries that I can see off of New England that are smack dab in the ocean.

May I suggest that this file should be put into the "good idea, bad implementation" bucket and taken off the list of availables? (Since the originator seems to be MIA).

Offer to take the file

Why not offer to become the maintainer of the file and thereby get it corrected and allowing it to stay on the site.

Right after YOU explain to my wife where I found so much free time. laugh out loud

Seriously, the need for handling this much data does require a bit more commitment than I may have.

I already have reworked the file so that it's a bit easier to maintain. I created a spreadsheet that numbers the entries and puts that number in the name so that eveyrone has a unique identifier to make it easier on eveyrone..... Why exactly am I sticking my foot deep into the poo? razz

Ok, for a limited time I'll do it.

I'm going to regret this..... I know it.

I will present the file in GPX format but will be able to make just about any other type of file out of it if there's a need. (A degree of trial-n-error may ensue for a short time.)

I'm going to go back to my corner and shut my mouth. surprised

I'm really an idiot. The file I massaged was the "Bridges" one, not the covered bridges one.

However I'll look at it too.

Re: Offer to take the file.

I guess I can keep the covered bridge one.

The only thing is, I can maintain it, post it, and make conversions but I can't verifiy the data so that will depend on user's responses.

Again, for a short while
