POI projects

Hi. I'm a paddler (kayak and canoe). I'm considering developing a POI file consisting of put-in and take-out locations in IL/WI. I have seen this type of information on a website and thought it would be great to get it transferred to my GPS(s). Sometimes finding the meeting location at the put-in is half the battle.

Does anyone know of a POI download of Gas Stations with Prices? I understand that prices are constantly changing so the file would constantly change... But if I download it right before my road trip it would help!

Maybe people don't use them anymore, but they were popular a few years ago. I'm looking for places to work-out while traveling - you know, do some calisthenics, pullups, pushups, a little running and stretching. This is the sort of course I'm talking about:

Just wondering what the policy was, or how people felt, about bumping old threads?

With so many new people here, old projects seem to get lost. Many people may not even know there is a project/file here that they could contribute to.

Since it is Tax time and check cashing comes to mind. Is there any interest in a POI file for ACE Cash Express locations?

I know there are a few of these around Manitoba but I don't know if these are common place. In at least a couple of locations there are cement piles that extend 3-4 feet above the ground with a locating pin in the center. Each site has high resolution lat/long coordinates associated with it, with the detailed location information provided by Natural Resoures I believe.

Hi gang,

I am brand new to custom POI's today and thrilled to run across this site. I registered here, downloaded a handful of custom POI packages, subscribed to the Red Light Camera POI's, and basically spent the entire rainy day having fun with this site and my GPS.

However, I did not find any POI's related to Wakeboarding Pro Shops.

I just sent in a new POI project for pipe organs and can use some help!

I have 5 excel spreadsheets with 100 organ locations and information that needs to be geocoded.

I have been using Extra POI Editor and have been putting the following information in the description screen in the following format.

# of ranks, # of pipes, # of manuals, # of (32’), # of (62’)

I have recently added some custom POI lists using the Garmin POI Loader. Sometimes the POIs are clustered within 200 feet or less of each other. When I use an alert distance of 500 ft, many times the alert only shows for one of the POI's. In many cases it never signals the closer POI, which is what I would figure it was signal first.

Other than paying the $5.00/mo for the red light POIs for my Garmin StreetPilot 7200, how does one gain the "free" POI data for red lights? Is the method to simply make a certain number of posts? Or, do you have to make specific POI posts?

I just had to take a moment to share how exciting it is to be part of the packaging department of our Factory.

It really is like a production line here.

One person makes a file and submits it, another person sees that file and makes a set of sound files to go with it. More people jump out of the woodwork and produce the other missing elements to the project.

Maybe this has been answered but I couldn't find anything about it.

I noticed that the Speed Camera data has changed. Some entries now include the key-word 'Redlight' while others don't. For an example:

"Redlight & Speed 45 MPH C30393"
and
"Speed Camera 35 MPH C30448"

I recently got envolved in Gocaching, as a result, I am going to a lot of parks around the SA, Tx area that I would not have otherwise gone to.

I have discovered that the parks in and around this area are very cool. Many have playgrounds, nature trails to hike and bike, and areas to play sports or just throw a frisbee. I have gone back to a few just to have a picnic.

Somebody please start a project about webcam and invite people to submit public webcams (Non-adult).

The POI file can have lat, long, and link to web cam.
