New Neighbourhood Area Maps

I live in a city that is growing rapidly and have tried to find road maps for the area to download to my GPSr. There are no current maps available which I could find to scan etc. So I have a couple of questions. Google maps is to my estimation 3 years old (has the satellite image from about 2004/05) I have a city planning map which indicates street names etc although it is only in pdf format.

Talked to Garmin at the Mac Expo about POI creation software...

Hi All,

I talked to Garmin's software people at the Mac Expo, in San Francisco yesterday and suggested they develop a software program that is, in effect, a template allowing users to create and save .gpx and .csv files on their computers.

Classifieds?

Has the POI factory considered a "classifieds" or "for sale" forum? As in "creating one"? Perhaps it could be limited to electronics only??

SD-compatible GPS makes geotagging easy.
A SD-compatible GPS makes geotagging easy. Memory maker ATP has launched what it describes as: "the World's most easy-to-use Geotagging device." The Photo Finder is a portable GPS receiver that can automatically sync its data with the photos from your digital camera, without the need for a computer.

Question for the experts out there

My college professor has asked me to look around for a GPS that is arrow extremely accurate and that is arrow simple to use. Those are the only 2 requirements. He also said that he would prefer a unit that is used for surveying because they tend to be very accurate. Does anybody know of what brand, or type or who I should talk to about this?

POI files on other sites...

I was just wondering if the files on poi-factory were posted on other sites.. And so I did a Google approach in investigating this.. i do know what is and whats not posted here.. What I found was that some of the files SEEMED to be the same but when reviewing the comparison, they did not seem to be. I also did look for org that you would not find anywhere else and couldn't come up with any..

Compare Address to Longitude and Latitude for Accuracy

Is there a program that will do this comparison given that the data is in a csv file?

GPS and common sense

I saw this video on yahoo videos regarding GPS, it just shows how some people lack common sense.

Just copy and paste in your browser:

Generic POI Data

Is there a generic csv format for POIs for multiple GPS brands? If not what is the best approach to make the POIs available to user of different brands? Or is another file type like gpx better for general POI distribution?

Is there an Advanced search option for here?

I was wondering if there is any sort of advanced search to help narrow down the returned results. For example, if I only want to search "POI FIles", "Forum Topics", "Bitmaps", etc.

I haven't found it yet. If it doesn't exist, may I suggest it as an upgrade?

Chatty Charley thread for the week of January 14th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Contributors of the week 2007-01-07

This week we are recognizing Dbrillha and Sofrito.

Dbrillha, You made a fantastic guide for new members to use to help them make files and alerts. I know that you spent a considerable about of time building this guide. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Sofrito, You have been filling in some of the missing links for the CT and RI areas. Thanks for making those missing files.

New Nuvi User

Hi all, I'm a new Nuvi (370) user here. Been wanting one for quite a while, got it for Xmas, and went on a trip 3 days after I got mine. Talk about a learning curve! So far I've got the Fodor's and MP3s loaded along with a few pictures.

GPS With Auxiliary Inputs

Has anyone seen any GPS units that have connections to accept auxiliary inputs? For example, say you wanted to have a camera on the back of your RV when you are in reverse and wanted to use a Garmin Nuvi 750 or 7200 for the display.
