I'm new here, but I was wondering... is there a way to find the coordinates of a known location online using satellite imagery or something like that? That way you could create poi files without actually traveling to a specific location. Thanks.

I know that the admins are busy getting the new site up, but I thought perhaps at some point, it would be nice to have an advance search.

Such as by author, subject, body, or all. It would also be nice to be able to have it where you could use such as "and", "or"

Is there a file for all the Wal-marts in the US. That place is so useful. It works for me cuz we travel in an RV and it is grat for parking in their lot and closing the blinds and sleepingplus they got food

Saying hello. I'm new to this forum, but I have used automotive GPS for years. My first was a Garmin Street Pilot that cost a fortune. (Recently sold that on eBay) And have only used factory GPS systems since (both in Infinitys). The 2005 infinity was poor, the 2007 is a lot better.

I recently purchased a Magellan 3225 for $150 and I'm pretty impressed with the tiny thing.

I did a search in the POI factory base and there seem to be different opinions regarding deleting built in POI's. I have several POI's in the FOOD section that are out of business and I would like to delete them. I opened the Garmin folder and coule not open the POI file to get at the list. Suggestions. Thanks

Since installing software v4.30 on my Nüvi 670, I've experienced the following:

While playing .mp3's on my Nüvi 670, I approached an intersection with a "Redlight camera" and the alert came on (as it should), however, immediately after the alert, the .mp3 I was listening to "didn't resume playing" but skipped to the "next" song.

I'm wanting to be able to take two coordinate points, and using a little pythagoreum magic, come up with the number of feet between these points.

I'm doing that because I want to double check these POI files and see what points might possibly be duplicates of the same intersection.

I'm starting with

((lat-lat)^2 + (long-long)^2)^.5

then multiplying the result by 3600.

I wanted to let you guys know what has been going on with me so that you understand why I have not been as quick with some of my responsibilities as I usually am.

Over the last few weeks I have been having eye strain and headache issues. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and found out that my current glasses are not strong enough to support the work that I am doing on the computer.

Any chance we can cross reference the POIs into a database, so we can extract POIs by state/province and not just the category? Would make travel much easier if I could extract everything for a specific area - I could get all the Wal-Marts, Home Depots, fuel stops, covered bridges, etc, in one selection?

I have a garmin c530 and would like to know how the traffic reciever works. The subscription ran out, I had a free trial. When I plug up the reciever it show show the car symbol on the unit..but it won't let me select it. On the otherhand, the reciever looks like it is still working though..the light on the reciever flashes.

Does anyone know how many favorites can be saved to the Garmin c530?

After having a past problem for finding the correct longitude and latitude reading for some custom poi's I decided to ask the Garmin people who were the best to get the coordinates from and this is the answer.

I'm happy to help you with this. I would use the google map as we get our mapping from the same company. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Though I download the redlight cameras maybe once every 1-2 weeks, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to uploading to GPS. Probably update once every 2-4 weeks.

I have a MapSource DVD that was provided to me from Garmin several months ago, which was previously loaded on my laptop. It worked fine and I've used it many times setting up waypoints etc. Now my dilemma!

My laptop is on the blink, so I'm trying now to download my original MapSource DVD to my new desktop computer.

It loads up, but I can't use it and get the following message.

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.
