Welcome / open talk

Contributors of the week 2008-01-21

This week we are recognizing Don B and JJPrats.

Don B, You had Miss POI working in overdrive this week razz You took on two huge projects this week and have not showed any signs of slowing down. It is so nice to have the Historical Military Sites files, the Historical Markers files and now you are working on Arches. Thank you so much for making these wonderful files for the site.

Chatty Charley thread for the week of January 28th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Just An Observation Or Two

After getting a GPS for Christmas and becoming a member of this forum for a short 3 plus weeks, I'm finding that just about every question that I likely want to ask has already been asked and is displayed in the forum. However, sometimes it takes a while to filter through all of the responses to eventually find the answer to the question(s).

Active Forum Topics

Why are some of the Active Forum Topics that are shown when logged in, not shown when you are not logged in? Ref: Red-Light cams on way? Is there a catch up period for post? They never read the same.

comparing Traffic services in USA

i am new to the GPS world and when i bought my Nuvi 760 i also received with it the TMC cable. I have enjoyed the unit immensly, but was wondering if i was missing anything by not having a different traffic service cable- i searched the internet and couldn't find any info. i even called the two companies to hear what they offered ( the TMC cable came with a 3 month trial period)

Posts

Is there a way to delete some of the posts in the folder that has each of the forums that you have posted to? It is getting big and some I don't follow any more.

Thanks,

Nuvi 360 now available at Costco.com for $249.99

I just notice on Costco.com that they offered the Nuvi earlier than was expected. $249.99 + s&h.

Microsoft Streets to Garmin

I have been having a problem making a route in MS Streets 2007, converting it using GPS Visualizer, for a Garmin GPS. The first route I did worked fine. Now I can not remember the setting I used. I do not see a choice for MS 2007. But am pretty sure I use that the last time. Then converting to one of the Map source formats. Any suggestions?

Class Action suet Magellan deceptive advertiseing practices

One word POI ?

Garmin Lock?

I was just reading a couple of other posts that mentioned it, and I was wondering how many actually use it. If so, why???? I mean, if someone steals your GPSr, then finds out later that it's useless to them, aren't they just going to toss it in the trash?

GPS systems for big trucks

I recently bought a used magellan 700 from another trucker. This is my first experience with a gps unit and I am hooked. I drive a big truck across 48 states and wonder what is the best system to buy? Is there any unit that has truck routes?

Another vehicle question

Is there an easy program that I can view the contents of an srf file in? No, I don't want to stare at Navigirl! wink I have so many from various places in a folder on my PC now that it's hard to remember what some of them are. I don't really want to have to install them to find out.

I suspect this has already been discussed on this site so please help with a node link. I have a map which I made with mapman and would like to make it possible to have my nuvi670 find the streets and use them for routes. Is there a topic location I can read to see how this is done rolleyes

Mexico Maps GPS Atlas V2 - released (bicimapas)

V2 now released:

Notes from the Publisher about the update.

New Features

Added street detail for the remaining State Capital cities:
Aguascalientes, Colima, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Durango, Chilpancingo,
Morelia, Tepic, Ciudad Victoria, Tlaxcala, Xalapa, Zacatecas,
Saltillo, Culiacán.

Added the following cities as a suggested by several customers: San

FOOD POI per state (known to small places)

Do we have a POI for restaurant/diner/etc. that when you visit places that somebody recommends that they don't miss if they visit some states?

For example, when you visit Philly, don't forget to try GENO's, PATs etc.

Most of this I watch from FOOD network.

Alert sounds

I just came across the alert sounds page; so I started browsing the files. Living in a big city, if I put a majority of them on my gps, it would be going off all of the time. Best Buy alert, CompUSA alert (which they are selling out and will be no more), restaurant alerts, wow... more than what I would have ever thought of. grin

Number of Icons that can be loaded onto my custom POI's.

I am able to only load 256 icons onto my custom poi listing. I have tried to load files either (1)totally onto my gps 7200, (2) totally onto my sd card or (3)any combination of the two. The number of files are not limited to 256, but when my number of icons reaches 256, no further icons are loaded. Any files after the 256 are loaded without any problems.
