Contributors of the Week 2008-05-12

This week we are recognizing Cursulak and Escrge as our Contributors of the week.

Cursulak was busy making icons for files that seemed to be missing them. It is nice to have those icons for those files now, Thank you.

Escrge, this week you did something really cool. You made a red light camera alert using the different Garmin voices. This is a great addition to the site.

At what price?

There have been a couple postings where forum members have posted the current gas prices in their localities; this is not what this post is about.

Only you know your personal finances, how much is you income, and the expenses you have.

With the price of gas and diesel going up what will you curtail in your daily life to keep the budget in line?

Difference between Preloaded POI and Downloaded ones from Factory

New to site and life with GPS. My Garmin 750 should arrive today. Wow, Prices have dropped. Got mine for $320

Have a question. I see there are many POIs here to download and people spend a lot of time adding to them. What a great community!

Do not GPS come with some of these POI. Like Rest Areas, National Parks, Walmarts, Coffee shops etc?

Hard Rock Cafes

Lockheed Martin Wins GPS Contract

wrong direction?

someone told me that sometimes GPS can give you the wrong direction. how could a system that is globally navigated by satelite give you the wrong directions?

Hand held GPS file exchanges

This may not be exactly the right place to find the answer, but I suspect many users of vehicular GPS receivers are familiar with hand held versions, so I am going to give it a shot.

CUDOS to MS POI & ALL SITE MGRS - and FRIENDLY FOLKS

I have only been a member of this site for 3 weeks now and I must give a big "HAT'S OFF" to Ms POI and all the SITE MGRS for the great work and available data provided at this site. You see I operate and manuver a large tour bus, with precious passengers, all over the U.S. and Canada.

SIRF Receivers in cell phones?

I was reading an article about the new Blackbery Bold, which touts the GPS capabilities. I was wondering if anyone knows what type of receiver it has. There are a number of cell phones that are being made that have navigation capabilities. Do they use the same type of receiver as the dedicated navigation devices?

Did Anyone See the Drabble Comics from Last Week?

In the Drabble comic strip, Mrs. Drabble bought a GPS unit. Ralph doesn't take an immediate liking to it.

Garmin Nearest Cities

Does anyone understand the order in which "near" cities are sorted? For example, if you type in Boston, it seems to start out alphabetically, but then Boston MA and other Bostons are not in order. Doesn't sort by distance either. I'm confused.

Chit Chat Thread for the week of May 12th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.
