Cannot Install Update

I cannot seem to get past this on my 2689. First time I have experienced this. Following this instruction loops me right back to it.

Step 2 of 2: Restart Your nuvi 2689

To finish the software update, you need to restart your device.

1. Unplug your device from the computer.

2. After 5 seconds, plug your device back in to the computer.

3. Your device will power on and apply the software update.

Yadda yadda.

Two questions

Is Garmin Express up to date? How much space on the memory card?

Working Now

As you may know, Garmin Express always updates itself if an update is available, so I am on the latest version of that. I have 12 GB free on the card. These two things are not the issue but thanks. Any other ideas?

GE doesn’t have to do “always” update itself

Actually Garmin Express doesn’t have to ALWAYS update itself if an update is available. There are some options that need to be disabled and it won’t update. In addition, there is a task that runs at 2 AM that makes GE automatically check for and install an update. That task writes a pretty sizable log file to your hard drive. All the log files can be deleted.

What O/S are you running?

OS

I am running Win11. I have GE set to not auto-start, and my computer is off at 2 am. So, it only runs if I manually run it, and GE then updates if an update is available. Where are the log files? Not that they would seem to be a problem but...

Tried something different just now. Powered down the 2689. Let 5 seconds elapse, then powered up. Then reconnected to PC and let GE do its thing. This time, it completed the software update. That's not the process the screen was telling me to do but it worked.

I am now updating the map. And hoping for the best.

Auto update likely runs …

The next time you turn your PC on. See the thread at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/55131 For more details.

Same problem

I removed my 2699 from Garmin Express. Rebooted PC and Garmin. Added back my 2699, and it installed fine.

Same Problem

Interesting. Might try that. Cannot get the map to finish the install now. Gets to about 71% and crashes. Error logs are not clear enough for me to troubleshoot. Doing my older 265W now. If it goes through fine, may try your scheme.
