`smoking to or not to do

evil evil Nearly died of pneumonia a while back (2 years) still not back to "normal". Doc says I will not be while cigaretts are around. Laws are in place to prohibit smoking, not enforced, too busy handing out tickets for speeding, both can cause death, of course, but let all smokers to fight pneumonia and see how many continue afterwards. Cigs in England are approw &30 still not enough.

Proximity Alerts

Can a proximity alert be increased?

When we are traveling 65-70 miles an hour the proximity alerts do not activate far enough in advance.

Most of the times I have found that they active when the exit has passed or I am right at the exit which makes a safe exit impossible.

As a result most proxity alerts are use less.

Can the distance from an exit or the establiment be increased?

say what?

The Bloomberg article notes that the companies are accused of failing to disclose that Harbinger's LightSquared venture would interfere with their products, according to a complaint filed today in federal court in Manhattan.

The most interesting man in the world:

Doesn’t need Lifetime Traffic. When he heads down a road traffic parts before him, just to see him pass.

Doesn’t dl POIs. Wherever he goes that becomes the most interesting place to be.

When he calls Garmin, Garmin picks up the phone. After all he just might launch his own GPS Satellite system.

Students Spoofed GPS Signals, Hijacked $80 Million Yacht

Looks like threats to GPS navigation are more susceptible to spoofing than from jamming the signals. Drones and vessels at sea are certainly targets, as the article describes, but of more immediate potential impact IMO might be Google's driverless mapping vehicles roaming our streets and highways.

SD/Micro SD Card Reader/Writer

I will very shortly be using Alandb cloning method because of the lack of space on my unit’s internal memory. My computer unfortunately doesn’t have an SD card reader so I started looking for an external / portable model.

Thursday evening service outage 7/25/2013

POI Factory was running slowly and sometimes unreachable for a little while this evening due to network troubles at our web hosting company.

The problem lasted about a half hour and was resolved around 9:15pm Eastern (6:15pm Pacific).

For those of you who had troubles reaching the site, I appreciate your patience.

Automobile Hacking

... a car is not a simple machine of glass and steel but a hackable network of computers, is what Miller and Valasek have spent the last year trying to demonstrate.
