School Bus Drivers...

WOW,

We had a issue last night with our daughters Bus company here in NYC. She rides a small bus for disabled children.

Anyways, I am wondering if anyone else had a issue like the following and what was done about it.

My daughter dismissal time is 2:30PM and normally gets home around 3:45 to 4:00PM. Last night she did not get home until 8:00PM!!

We called the bus company that had her and was told that she first had bus problems, and that she should arrive in about 9 min.. 1/2 hour and no show, we called back to be told that the bus now had a flat tire and will arrive in about 6 min.. Called again after another 45 min, was told that there is a new driver on the bus and that they are lost but will be there shortly!! what a mess..

We called back again to see where she is (btw, we were quite upset now) and was told that a fellow father picked up his kid and 2 other (including our child) "WHAT?!!?" We did not give the OK to do that (even tho we knew the father and was glad he got her home at 8:00PM - would have be even later than that if he did not) but that is not the issue! The issue is that they gave her to someone NOT on our list..

This bus driver should be fired.. Heck, I believe the bus even had a GPS in the bus!!

I am wounding if there is anything we can do to make this not happen again and to let others of the issue at hand?

Any ideas?

Did you explain to someone in management that you did not like that?

A nightmare.

My niece runs a state licensed daycare. The second day of the new school year, a first grader was not on the afternoon bus when it arrived at her place of business.
She boarded that bus and then refused to leave until the child was found. A call to the bus supervisor & the child was found immediately, and was picked up by a school van.
She tried to file criminal charges. The driver was suspended for one month and put on probation for the rest of the year.

@ Bobkz. Your situation is much more serious. Fire that guy and his supervisor.

Newspaper

Call the local newspaper. Sometimes you get a more immediate response than you do from the TV people.

GPS Generally Not Allowed on School Busses

A friend's wife has been a school bus driver for over 40 years. He told me that if a driver uses a gps in the bus, it is grounds for immediate dismissal.

This is in Ontario, but most of the bus companies are US companies, so I expect that would also apply in the US. The reason for this, is the risk of distraction, for the driver.

Now the buses do have GPS tracking, in many cases, but this is not GPS navigation. This is only to track the location of the bus. Not all buses are outfitted and the GPS Tracking doesn't always work.

Complain to the school

Complain to the school in person and in writing. Also write to the Schools Chancellor. The bus company has a contract with the NYC school system and there are procedures specified in their contract covering just about any situation. Your daughter should not have been released to anyone else!

Ask the school what procedure for you to take if your daughter does not arrive on time. It could be that calling the bus company is not the first call you should make.

Remember that about one year ago a bus company with a long-term contract with the city was dismissed to save money. Whoever replaced them are a bunch of amateurs!
