Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? – August 2013

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Students Spoofed GPS Signals, Hijacked $80 Million Yacht

Looks like threats to GPS navigation are more susceptible to spoofing than from jamming the signals. Drones and vessels at sea are certainly targets, as the article describes, but of more immediate potential impact IMO might be Google's driverless mapping vehicles roaming our streets and highways.

SD/Micro SD Card Reader/Writer

I will very shortly be using Alandb cloning method because of the lack of space on my unit’s internal memory. My computer unfortunately doesn’t have an SD card reader so I started looking for an external / portable model.

Thursday evening service outage 7/25/2013

POI Factory was running slowly and sometimes unreachable for a little while this evening due to network troubles at our web hosting company.

The problem lasted about a half hour and was resolved around 9:15pm Eastern (6:15pm Pacific).

For those of you who had troubles reaching the site, I appreciate your patience.

Thanks,

Jonathan (aka JM)

Automobile Hacking

... a car is not a simple machine of glass and steel but a hackable network of computers, is what Miller and Valasek have spent the last year trying to demonstrate.

Red Light Camera

I live in New York City and most of the red light camera intersections I encounter have only 1 camera pointed at a slight angle toward the intersection in question.

Does this 1 camera able to take photos of cars speeding past a red light in all four directions?

Cudos to Batteryship.com

I like to walk around with my nuvi 350 while on vacation. Recently I found it wouldn't hold a charge after a 5 hour drive. Later that day I plugged the gps into wall charger overnight. In the morning the gps said 100% charged, a few minutes later the display shut off. When I restarted unit charge was 1 bar. This gps served me well, so I planned to replace the battery.

Dunkin Donuts File

I have just completed an update of the Dunkin Donuts file. All locations were obtained from the latest website listing and each location now indicates if a drivethru is present and also if wifi is available.

Question: Where is the POI file I uploaded?

I uploaded a POI file yesterday. But now it's over 24 hours and it's not showing up under the "structures" category.

I'm wondering why.

Can anyone see this page?

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/40418

And I did try finding this answer under the FAQ's but couldn't see where this kind of lag time is addressed.

Thanks for your help.
