Welcome / open talk

Membership Types

Just joined up, and am already a little confused about how this works exactly. Specifically, is posting to the forums absolutely required to be able to download the poi files and install them to my TND 720, or can I bypass that by becoming a paid subscriber? Obviously I'd prefer the latter ~ i.e. support the site and remove the posting requirement. Anyone care to respond? Thanks in advance.

Contributors of the Week 2012-10-29

This week we are recognizing jim407!

We picked Jim407 this week because makes a point to reach out to other users in friendly discussions, willingly shared his experience in surviving hurricanes both before and after Sandy hit and readily admitted he underestimated how familiar many of the members of our community are with the work of Mr. Torvalds. razz

How do you post Icon files on this site?

When I bought my TomTom Start 55TM and started frequenting this web site I downloaded a bunch of POI files and added them to my GPS.

There are lots of very good icons for the files I downloaded but I thought I could improve on them or make different icons that were sharper.

Black Friday / Cyber Monday - 2012

Thanksgiving is on the radar now, and I've started thinking about shopping for some holiday deals. So, I figure it's about time to start up the yearly thread for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Any great deals you find interesting are fair game. It's okay to go beyond GPS and to chat about items you hope to find. (This year, I'm looking to snag deals on a ~40" TV and a garage door opener smile )

Not POI related - Linux Opinion

Nothing to do with POIs here. Since winter is coming I was looking for an indoor project to keep me busy (when not shoveling snow). I thought I would experiment with learning Linux. From a little searching yesterday it looks like Fedora or Ubuntu are popular versions. I will be installing it on a home desktop computer as a dual boot and I'm not worried about any server applications.

Change your clocks - change your bateries

It's that time of the year again... back to Standard Time... so - sometime today, while thinking about changing clocks before bed - take the time to change the batteries in any electronic gadget you rely on to monitor your - or your family's health and protect safety... things like Fire & CO detectors... glucose meters and those kinds of things.

Enjoy the "extra hour" of sleep...

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.
