Winter Storm Hercules

How much snow are you getting from this storm in your
Area ? New York --> 6 to 10 inches.

None. Still summer time in

None. Still summer time in southern california. Daily highs have been near 80F in some place. I'm still waiting for "bone chilling" 40F SoCal winter. It's fun to see Angelenos freak out when the temp drops below 50.

5 - 8

predicted here in the Pocono Mountains of PA. Already 5 on the ground at 9 pm.

Zelienople, PA

Reporting in with 4-5 inches, the snow appears to be done and the driveway is shoveled. Ugh.

Soo glad I live in the Southeast!!!!

I live in NC, where it gets chilly, but never really cold like up North. Thankfully, no snow if fornicated for where I live! For the life of me, I do not understand why anyone would want to live where it snows!!!! I would live in Florida, but that is too hot in the Summer.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Ow, that's rubbing it in razz

We're nowhere near the storm either but it's going down to -25 Celsius this weekend, with 10 centimeters of snow predicted. The one thing we have over the East Coast is it's a DRY cold rolleyes

about 5"

We only got about 5" in south central Wisconsin, but now the deep freeze is moving in. I have about -9.7 and officially it's -13.8 it doesn't sound right but they're predicting a high of -11 and a low of -18 for Monday.

Re: Hercules

In NW Illinois I have about 5" over the last few days, plus some leftover from before Christmas. -14F right now with no wind. What a glorious morning. The sun is rising into a clear sky.

Hercules, Hero of Song and Story ......

I loved that cartoon when I was little, but I hate shoveling snow these days.

We got about 11 inches at

We got about 11 inches at O'Hare in Chicago, which is manageable, but now the deep freeze is hitting us. It's 7:50 in the morning and the temp is a rather nippy 8 below. It's going to be an eye opening walk to get to the el platform this morning, and even worse when I have to go above ground to get to the bus stop.

Dry cold???

Regardless how you look at it -25 degC is -15 degF
THATS damn cold in anybodies book, dry or not!
Remember at -40 deg the F and C scales are the same.

-23C in Kitchener, Ontario Last Night, but just a dusting of snow. Warming up by Sunday to -3C (27F), but 15-20 cm (6-8 Inches).

Not nearly as bad as they're getting now on the east coast.

You guys & Gals on the east coast, please be careful. we don't want to lose any of you.

TEMPERATURES WILL REACH EXTRAORDINARILY LOW NUMBERS FOR THIS PART OF THE WORLD. WE THINK PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST NH/NORTHWEST MA WILL BOTTOM OUT AROUND 25 BELOW ZERO AS WINDS DECOUPLE OVER A FRESH SNOWPACK! THE URBAN CENTERS OF BOSTON/PROVIDENCE WILL BE DOWN AROUND ZERO DEGREES.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WIND CHILL VALUES WILL BE ON THE ORDER OF 10 TO 25 BELOW ZERO ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION. WIND CHILL ADVISORIES FOR MOST LOCATIONS INTO SATURDAY MORNING FOR THE DANGEROUSLY COLD WEATHER.

Canada switched to the metric system in 1976, but I'm old enough to be able to work in either metric or Imperial measurement.

At -40 it doesn't matter what units you use - it's COLD. And we have already been there a few times this winter.

Atlanta

Local news outlets are saying that Atlanta could see 8*F on Tuesday morning.

Thats the bone chilling cold too...

Wasn't my intention. Sorry if it sounds that way. Believe it or not, I don't like heat. I'd much rather be in the 30s F winter temp (somewhere between 0C and 10C) than 80s. This winter has been really hot. I hate it. I guess the grass is always greener...

Snowfall was never going to be issue here, or anwhere else in .

.. the NE. Just a media event for the usual suspects. What might become problematic will be the two waves of potentially threatening wind/chill which might have the ability to test antifreeze limits, mechanical systems, & most seriously: frostbite & hypothermia. confused

Hercules No Big Deal

The storm dropped about 5 inches on my end of Pittsburgh and gave way to clear skies. The roads are white with the residue of salt and calcium chloride. The big chill bottoms out here at an actual -7 F on Tuesday which will take your breath away. At least here we are prepared for it.

I just moved here a year ago from California. Frankly I think the drought there is worse news.

-52

Sunday night and Monday morning we are supposed to have as low as a 52 below wind chill.

Its warm in Webster NY (+12F)

I cleared 10 inches of snow from my driveway on Thursday before I left. I came back Friday night to about 14". I had a drift in front of my door that was at least 2ft high. It was dark and I didn't feel like clearing the driveway. The car is at least in the driveway. My job for today is to clear it.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

This storm was severe.

This storm was severe. Somehow I managed to make it to work but it was not easy.

5 or 6"

Had about 5 or 6 inches. Light powder was not bad, but there was some ice underneath it that required chemical treatment to melt. Rain tomorrow should melt a little more. More to follow...

Washington, DC

The DC area got 1 to 3 inches of snow.

13" in NE Ohio with 8-12"

13" in NE Ohio with 8-12" more on the way over the next few days

Bitter Cold Temperatures

I am not sure how meteorologists determine exactly when a storm starts or ends. Hercules didn't seem dump as much snow as expected, but now the focus is on the bitter cold temperatures. I see that Indianapolis is imposing a travel ban because of the temperature and wind chill.

I hope everyone keeps safe and warm!

Cold Blast

Another cold blast coming.

Too Much

Centereach, LI got about 12 inches. sad

Florida here I come! smile

4-6 inches, went from snow

4-6 inches, went from snow to hail/rain... then flash froze... Sucked in the morning shoveling it.

for

anyone keeping track, there is winter storm ION coming

Chicagoland

14 inches in the western 'burbs. Monday Jan 6 was 18 below, with wind chill 47 below, a record in Aurora, IL (far western 'burbs).

A couple of my coworkers went out front on Monday with a cup of hot water from the tea dispenser and threw it into the air and it turned to snow in mid-air.

Atlanta GA Area

Went down to 3 degress this am and we lost power over night. Not what I moved South for smile

Do your own experiment... go out there and pee. If it doesn't freeze in mid air, try again from the top of Willis (Sears) Tower.

"Polar Vortex?"

I like it; has that sci-fi sound to it.

Frankly I can't wait until the movie makes it to the 3D local theaters. razz

No Snow in DC

No snow in DC from Hercules, but it was 3 degrees at 7:00 AM in the Virginia suburbs.

like a bad SYFY movie, I think they used to be known as 'Alberta Clippers'

Hercules not Greek

Was surprised to learn that Hercules is not from Greek mythology. I guess the makers of Jason and the Argonauts didn't know that either. Hercules is the Roman copy of Heracles.

Don't Blame Alberta

blake7mstr wrote:

A Polar Vortex actually originates over Nunavut and Baffin Island, far to the east of Alberta. A Polar Vortex is much less common than a Clipper, and tends to be colder and last longer.

Alberta Clippers are known for the strong, colds winds and rapid drop in temperature - but they really only last a day or two. And they still occur once or twice a winter... trust me!

So don't blame Alberta razz

why not

It's as logical as blaming Garmin because the radio station hasn't updated traffic.

Naming winter storms, putting Al Rokker in front of cameras, showing reality programs & letting us know what MSNBC is covering. Lots of foolish ideas.
Directv has dropped them for the time being.
