Creating POI files

How to increase accuracy

Hello everyone, I recently started my first project. It covers all of the Mason lodges in the state of Indiana.

Uploading my POI file

Hi, I have just finished creating my 1st POI file for my TomTom as an .ov2 file. Now I wanted to share it but I can't figure out how to upload it as its not a .csv file.
Any pointers would be apprectiated.

This is a new file for public access CNG stations as of Jan 2012 in California.

where are my custom alerts sounds?

okay, I'm at a loss. I have followed all the instructions for downloading the red light camera locations including naming "bit map" and "custom sound" files all the same. I loaded from this site the "you are approaching a red light camera" and "slow down, speed trap ahead" with poi loader but still just get 2 beeps?

Geocoding Errors ...

I just noticed that GPS Visualizer is returning identical
lat:lon's for addresses that are ~7 miles apart.

So I did a test; resending it the same address multiple
times ... and getting multiple lat:lon's.

Anyone else notice this nonsense? This really wrecks my
effort to my additions to the free-WiFi file.

Dunno if the problem is theirs; or, the Yahoo(?) back-end
that they use.

First Post - Modifying existing GPX files

Before you ask, I did read MANY of the FAQ's, the Beginner Lessons and searched but evidently I'm not using the correct term. I downloaded and put onto my Garmin 2595 a couple of the smaller POIs for practice. They are both ESCAPEES campground locations. One was a CSV and the other a GPX file type.

Standard Disallowing Numbers in POI File Names

There have been recent threads dealing with problems we as Maintainers have created by having numbers in the names of POI Files.

Guinea pigs wanted ;-)

If you haven't noticed, I have been doing a bunch of POI house cleaning of late. If you think I went through thousands of POI file entries one by one to make the same changes over and over, you must be on something. (Please share!) Well I created a PERL script that does the heavy lifting and I want someone to more or less tell me how I did.

Alert only from the right direction - possible?

Being new POI user, I'm wondering, is it possible to have red camera POI to give the warning only when I approach from the right direction? I often see intersections with not 4 but 2 cameras, but all alerts I've seen so far sound when approaching from any of the 4.

csv compatability ? (Rand McNally, Garmin, etc.)

I have been working on POI items for the Rand McNally and wondered what the differance's are between the other csv files. How compatable are they during conversion?
Should I be programming for the Garmin CSV to send corrections and new poi's and then change for the Rand.

Camera downloads

Stupid newbie question of the day.

I downloaded both the redlight and speed cameras, the files went into their own individual file folders. I then used the Garmin POI Loader to install onto my 3490. It did not give me any options, did it automatically upload both files to my 3490 or is their a way that I have to manually choose folders to be transferred?

Thanks

switching Lat/Lon to Lon/Lat (and back)

Hi all.

I have known for quite a while that if I type or paste a pair of "lat, lon" coordinates into the Google Maps search bar it will find that location. However, since CSV files use "lon, lat" (the opposite order) it gets to be a pain swapping the values back and forth.

submitted csv files & bmps not posted

Hello all,

I uploaded a new csv file to share on Nov. 29th and also sent in the accompaning bmp file by email at the same time. Its still not posted. Is it normal to take this long to post or should I assume the two files are lost. I also submitted another bmp to go with an existing file a few weeks ago and have not seen that posted either.

transferring POI error messages

http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x101/soberbyker/POI%20err...

When transferring POI files to my GPS via the Garmin POI uploader I've been getting some error messages as can be seen at the link above. Not sure if they are important, what they mean or who to let know so I posted them here.

Maybe someone here can help out?

POI Combined Rest Area Display Alert Change

The last few Combined Rest Area files I loaded on my Nuvi 350 cause a different alert display in the title bar instead of "Rest Area Ahead". The display alert has changed with recent POI files. The display now flashes a red warning "10 mph Speed Alert Ahead" and then "Speed Alert: 10 mph". I didn't make any changes to the way I load the POI's. Is this what I should expect to see on the display?
