HOW TO LOAD RLC on units using iGO navigation software

A number of aftermarket car head units use iGO (or Primo) navigation software. I just bought an Advent (Audiovox) unit.

1) File Format: X,Y,TYPE,SPEED,DirType,Direction separated by , but saved with txt extension. 3 is the dirtype code of a red light camera. Most RLC files, including the ones in this site, don't have directional information. In those cases the record ends with 3 zeros.

file with one record

Quote:

X,Y,TYPE,SPEED,DirType,Direction
-122.31507,47.82117,3,0,0,0

2)File Conversion: You could use excel. Otherwise use Extra_POI_Editor to convert the poi file to tomtom ov2 format then use export2igo to convert the ov2 file to igo format.

3) Where to put the file: content/SPEEDCAM foler. (create the speedcam folder if it doesn't exist. Delete any files in that folder first. Always a good idea to back them up first.

4) On your GPS software go to the settings menu and go to the section on sounds and warnings. You can then set whatever options you want for proximity alerts.

WARNING--Your GPS unit will be slow and unresponsive (you may think it's broken) the first time you use it after loading the RLC. The unit automatically loads the POI into its database. The unit may also be slower loading, but to a lesser extent, every time you use the unit. Some places suggest limiting the POI to the states you need and not load the entire country. YMMV.

I suspect current members of this forum are either not using iGO or have already figured out how to convert RLC files.

For the benefit of anyone finding this thread in the future (via search) I found it easy to open the RLC file in a spreadsheet program. Sort by the first field, delete the rows for states you know you won't be driving through, add the extra columns, delete the text columns and save as CSV. The extension has to be txt. You might have to rename the file if your spreadsheet program won't let you override the default extension (CSV)

Adding ICon associated with .kml file on Igo Primo

Anybody knows how I should modify the .kml files to add a specific Icon for my POIs. I'm using IGo Primo on my Advent OE Radio Nav. The .kml files (converted from GPX) work fine but always show the default "World Globe" Icon from IGo. My.bmp files are stored in my UserIcons folder,on the SD card (Root)and are 28 x 28 pixels, 256 colors.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

POI

I have a excel file and this is what is in each cell Longitude, Latitude, Household, Street, City, State, Zip, Phone, E-mail and Location Status. I want all fields to show in igo primo poi. I can get only Lat, long and street to show. What am i doing wrong?

I've read elsewhere that the .txt file would be converted into, and a .scdb file created, after the first time you run it to load the new POI's and that this .scdb file is then used in all subsequent restarts. I can't find this file and was wondering if it is really supposed to be there or not or gets stored somewhere else other than the content/SPEEDCAM folder?

There is a .spud file created, but I thought that was for user defined locations entered through the UI while the program is actively running.

I checked. I fond

I checked. I fond speedcam.spdb in my speedcam directory.

Either you're running a different version of the software or you're doing something wrong. Make sure if you have the required fields.

I'm using a licensed version of iGO Primo. I can put my memory card in the computer and check for updates. I get one map update for free, othwerwise it will tell me if there are any paid map updates available. It will update the software at no cost. One upgrade fixed an issue with DST.

I have no idea if the pirate versions of iGO floating around the web are missing files.

edited to add I have no reason to think you're using a pirate copy of the software. My comment is directed to others who might find this thread via search.

You need to go into the settings and turn on proximity alert.

What happened to iGo?

Google maps and Waze have pretty much made built in NAV systems obsolete every few months. However the RLC POI's are essential for me in NYC so I keep a Nuvi running in my car just for that, with a Bluetooth connection to speak the alerts. I have an Eclipse head unit in my Mercedes SL with iGo 8. Both those products - Eclipse/Fujitsu and iGo appear to be out of business. The maps are sadly outdated today. I have installed the RLC's using a convoluted process but cannot get a voice alert.

Does Garmin, or TomTom offer a map solution for Windows CE Head Units? That would help.
