Garmin talk

I just bought an A-Data 8GB SDHC card and filled with up with 1000 MP3s. Now when I boot the Garmin with the card in the slot the unit freezes and I have to hit the reset button on the back of the unit to turn off the GPS.
Anyone else have this problem?

Don't expect Garmin to do this, but I just sent them a request for a new feature in Mapsource.

Right now, I see no way to open more than one file at the same time. The design of the GPS and Mapsource, however, cause us to create Custom POI files along with our route/waypoint file.

Is anyone else having a problem with the new loaders not taking the *.BMPs from the file? I uploaded new POIs into the C330 I have abd the *.BMPs disappeared. Backed up to loader 232 and it reloaded the files and the BMPs for each file!

I just upgraded from a Streetpilo c330 to the Nuvi 350. Couldn't be happier. I do have a question for any Nuvi owners out there.

The voice output seems to not be as clear on the Nuvi especially as the volume is turned up. Could it be that the c330 had a better speaker in it or are the voices not as clear on the Nuvi.

I have a C340 and am curious if there is a way to change the amount of time prior to a turn that the unit will notify you? It seems like the unit won't say, "turn at x" until I'm about 200 feet away from the turn. At higher speeds, that just isn't enough warning. I'd like to modify it so it warns me of a turn when I'm about 400 or 500 feet prior to the turn.

OK - more geekdom coming out. I just used a little program to record mp3 files from a mic plugged into the computer. I recorded warnings for speed traps, red lights and school zones and loaded through poi loader. I just tried it through the "simulutor" since it is a little late here. Worked perfectly for the speed traps and red light cameras.

Does anyone know if you can set a specific intersection as an avoidance? The reason I ask is that they just closed a major intesection in Houston at Beltway 8 and I10 and it will be closed until July, I want to avoid this intersection in my routes

Is there a way other than turning off somewhere else and letting my nuvi do the auto recalculate?

I have noticed, that there is a minimum speed to get accurate reading from the satellites and your Garmin to pinpoint the location, direction and elevation. Does anyone know the standard boundary values above which the accuracy is getting to the specifications for the GPS device?

I just downloaded the POI loader from Garmin, however when checking Garmin's list of POI compatibility products it doesn't list the StreetPilot 2820. My 2820 has an "Extras" menu for POI's. Does anyone know if the 2820 is compatible with Garmin's POI Loader?

So all this fun with the Nuvi motivated me to pull out my old Etrex Vista (B&W). Just updated the software on the unit - hadnt done that in ages.

Question is - is there any software interface for these? one would think it could pull some of the data that my fiance's Forerunner 301 can do - through training center. Anyone have any idea if there is anything else you can do with these?

I was surprised to see "GPS" listed on continental's list of approved devices above 10k feet (knowing full well it should be safe, but surprised they agree) and turned on my Nuvi 350 at 35k feet. I was quite surprised to never really get good reception. At most it was getting 3-4 sats with solid blue bars, anda few with hollow bars. Anyone had any luck getting it to lock on?

Just Wanted to let Everyone Know That the Help File In The POI Loader will Not work with Windows Vista Premium I contacted Garmin and so far Haven't Herd Anything Yet I will Keep Everyone Notified That has Vista Premium When Garmin Contacts Me

I had no problems loading POIs into my C330. Everyone that I downloaded should up in th Custom folder. My problem is that some of the POIs are duplicated. Any ideas on how to eliminate this problem?

Just picked up today. I plotted a trip from Toronto Canada to Stowe Vermont. I want to take hwy 401 east through to Quebec then cross the border from Quebec into State of vermont then South to Stowe. My unit wants me to cross border before Quebec and cross into NewYork State then to Stowe.

I have a Garmin StreetPilot i5 and I typically use Google Earth to find new POI's which I then save and load into my unit.

How do I mark Towns that I have visited so that I will not visit them again? There are lots of small towns around here and I like to go by them when I am on my way to somewhere else and I would like a way to mark them so that I wont keep going to the same ones. I would also like to mark roads like this too. I have a c320, I wonder which units can do this, or is there another way?

I was playing with changing the icons for my favorites list and decided I don't like the built in icons very much... (I'm Picky!) There are a bunch I will never use and others that just are not there and should be.

Is there a way to replace the built in icons with my own?

I am new here and also new with GPS. I bought my first GPS last week - garmin nuvi 350. I am just wondering if I can do interactive POI icons with this model. Its nice to know what's in the vicinity while I am driving (i.e. restaurant, etc or from personal POI). Is this possible? Thanks a lot!
