POI's not appearing

I just picked up a Garmin 360 and am getting used to it. The POIs Garmin installed and the ones I manually added appear on the screen as I drive by them. I downloaded some POIs here last week (great site, by the way) onto an SD card. I did not install them onto the 360's drive. I can access them fine through the "My Custom POIs" button and they take me where I want to go. But when I drive past one of them (Home Depots and Lowes, for example) they don't pop up on the screen. Is it because I didn't off-load them onto Garmin?

I don't know where I'm going or remember where I've been...without Garmin.

What exactly do you mean?

What exactly do you mean?

Are you expecting the custom POIs to be ANNOUNCED as you drive toward them? None of the POIs will be announced unless an alert is set for them.

Some are automatically set based upon the file or the file name (for example, redlight or speed alerts).

Others you must set by running POI Loader in MANUAL MODE instead of express.

Take a look at the Help File for POI Loader.

If you are asking something different, please give more details.

Viewing icons for POIs

If you mean that you don't see the icon on the screen, you may have to zoom in closer. Some have recommended at least to 300ft. Do a search on this website for "zoom to see pois" and you will see several answers.

funny you asked this question

I was thinking the same thing, after I took a trip out of town this weekend I noticed a change.
I am a Starbucks addict. That was the first POI file I installed and it came with the icon. I remember the starbuck icon showing up everytime I drove by one (I remember because it made me smile everytime).

This weekend, I noticed that several POI's icons that I installed, including the Starbucks, was not showing up. Now I cannot recall the last time they did.

Now, the question is did I do something different. I do know this, when I only had a couple of files, I installed them on the GPS, now that I have so many, I deleted them off the GPS and now keep them all on the memory card. I thought I remembered them showing up after I left them on the card, but I could be wrong. I do not think it has anything to do with zooming in. And the icons do show up when I go to the custom POI files themselves. And, there have been several updates to my GPS since I got it, maybe they changed something.

OK, guys, share your WonderWisdom. What is the answer to the missing icons?

I did as you said,

I did as you said, Motorcycle Mama, and I'm happy to announce I'll never miss another Starbucks again! What I was referring to, however, was this: I saved a friend's address to My Favorites. He lives half a mile off a highway I drive every day. As I come with range of his house, a dot followed by "Joe's House" shows up on the screen. It doesn't set the proximity alert off and looks like the Garmin POI's do on the screen. If I come close to a custom POI I've downloaded, this doesn't happen. Just curious why.

Ah, well it doesn't work

Ah, well it doesn't work that way for Custom POIs but ...

now that you've mastered that, you can add a Custom ICON to go with your Custom POIs so that when you look at the screen, you can see them on the screen.

For example, find/make a Starbucks logo, save it as a bmp or a jpg, name it EXACTLY the same as the POI file (if the POI file is Starbucks.csv, then name the icon file Starbucks.bmp), place the icon file in the same folder with your POI file and when you run POI Loader the icon will load as well.

Here is the icon that I used for Starbucks
