Garmin talk

Ok, so this has probably neen beaten to death somewhere else in the POI Factory, but doing a search really didn't answer my questions. I've been GPS'ing for over a year now with my trusty and reliable c340. Now I'm looking to get a unit for my motorcycle since I do a lot of long-distance touring on my bike - an older BMW RT. And either the Zumo 450 or 550 seems to fit the bill.

When I went to run my Web Updater yesterday I received a communications error.It says that i am not connected to the internet but obviously I am. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?

Does anyone know how big of a SD card the 550c will support? I have read on the others, but there is no mention of the 550. I was just wanting to add more mp3 files. thanx

VERY new to GPS and Garmin but am a fast learner. I have downloaded and installed the Garmin Communicator plugin, tested it, and have been downloading businesses via the "Send to GPS" function. However, when I checked the results on the Garmin, I found that only the lat/lon is displayed under the name; all of the business information shown in the "send" window is missing.

why does my nuvi give 2 diff mileages ? when i go to my fav it gives a mileage and when i go to the turn by turn the mileage is diff ? from my home to branson in turn by turn its 689mi but in my fav it says 403mi any help?

just recived my garmin 650 but the speker doesn't work, it worked for a secend and then just stoped. i tried to connect headphones and i could hear anything. does somebody know what could be the problem.

I have on my nuvi 660 the free north american map i got from the mail. tonight i was looking for the westin hotel in national harbor, md. looking at my maps, the city nor the streets exist!
I just got this map update maybe 5 months ago (2008 version perhaps?).. sucks!

Here are two questions for which I seek answers:

I recently purchased a Nuvi 850 from TVNav. I posed a question about its track log specifications in Darell's Yahoo group and thought it might be of interest to the group here.

Newbie here.

It appears that if I'm en route to a destination and for instance I stop for food and shut down my 260 it "sometimes" remembers the route when I power back on. Is there a certain shutdown sequence one must go through to ensure it does?

I've tried this several ways:

- Turn off ignintion and let Garmin shut down on it's own
- Touch "Turn Off" when prompted

Downloading of POI and Icons the same as my Nuvi 350? Thank you

How do I download Icons? I download POIs OK but not Icons.

I HAVE A C580 AND AM PRETTY MUCH BRAINDEAD WITH TECHNOLOGY-BUT I DOWNLOADED REDLIGHTS,WALLMARTS AND RESTSTOPS FROM THE SITE AND THE REDLIGHTS SEEMS TO WORK GREAT BUT NOTHING HAPPENS WITH THE OTHERS-AFTER LOOKING FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE HOURS FOR AN ANSWER I'VE DECIDED TO RISK IT AND ASK FOR HELP,SO ANYTHING WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICEATED ALSO HOW DO I ADD SOUNDS OR ICONS WITH THEM?

The Nuvi 350, for both the normal (non-Tourguide) proximity alerts and Tourguide proximity alerts, plays the associated MP3 file at least 4 times, and not necessariy back to back, before it finally quits. Very annoying. These are NOT speed alerts, only proximity alerts. I have "Single Tone" checked, however this seems to have no effect.

Dont know how many have seen this. But to me it sounds like a IPhone.. Or close to it. Sounds kinda neat.

Can someone tell me if Garmin 250W GPS can be charged by connecting it to the PC via a USB cable? I notice that when you connect the GPS to the PC it automatically turns on, but not sure if unit gets charged. Thanks.

I have Garmin 650 but still using 2008 map and I have a question that do I need to buy a new map to update my GPS map? Is it still give me the right direction?

I am obviously new to the Garmin GPS (760) arena and can't figure out 3 things: 1) how do I key in a normal destination (i.e. to Denver from Dallas) and include Rest Areas POI at the same time?

Could one of you tech savy users create .bmp files for Staples and Wingstop?
